What to do with my Mach?

Hi all. Haven’t posted in a while. Recently moved to a smog free state, which is pretty exciting for me. I’ve had my 03 TR for a few years now and it’s running well.

A year ago, a heavy rain leaked water thru the decaying shaker seal, in thru the COP covers, and into most of the plug wells causing no8 spark plug to blow out, taking all the threads with it. No other damage was done and a helicoil was installed. The car does feel noticeably slower then it did before and I never take it hard like I used to, which defeats the purpose of having a fast car in my mind.

I have snow in my new state and a new kiddo, so I’m getting a sedan. WRX, FoST, Optima Turbo, etc along those lines, less power, back seat, better snow handling.

Eventually I want a fast car again and I’m torn between trading the Mach in for a familyish car and buying a fast car later or keeping the Mach and building it for NOS or a SC. Financially, this is a long term project so money isn’t a huge aspect.

I worry that I can’t build the Mach if I were to keep it, since it has the helicoil which in my mind is a major weak point for a power adder. Would I need to buy new heads? Is that even worth dumping a ton of money into or is that just part of building a build engine process? Any insight you guys can share regarding the process of building the Mach would be awesome. Thanks.

Re: What to do with my Mach?

I've heard the Boss 302 is nice

I felt obligated to transition from a Mustang to "the family sedan" when my son was outgrowing his car seat. Hated every single minute of driving an asthmatic four door car.
Sounds like you have better choices in mind than the one I had made. If you do a lot of traveling with your significant other and kid, the Focus is not a roomy car.

Re: What to do with my Mach?

I got rid of a 1969 Camaro to get the Mach1 back in 2003 and my mind was set on a family car when I purchased the Mach1. The kids had to climb around the roll bar, I had a 454 ci motor, 2 spd powerglide trans and a 12 bolt rear with a spool. This was not the best family type car to have, oh yeah it ran mid 11's at 116 mph. So the Mach1 was a better choice for me, plus we had owned 2 mini-vans and I'll never own another. I drove that car for 5 years before getting a second vehicle with no issues but my kids were young. Neither of them fit I the back seat now. Some day you might be able to buy the Mach1 back if you sell it. You never know.
