Would You Buy a 2019 Mustang Mach 1 If It Looked Like This?

A talented person on the Mustang6g.com forum did this. What do you think?

Send the tri pony in the grill towards the driver side and round off the hood decal towards the grill and I would say yes.
Not sure that style would look right with the current shaker.
but I would miss it !!!

That's the best looking Mustang I've seen since 2004.

It would depend on the specs behind it. If it's just an appearance pkg then probably not.

Since the base GT for 2018 is rumored to start at 455hp, I say it would be pretty stout. No one knows what a potential powerplant would be, but some are hoping it is a cross-plane crank version of the 5.2L Voodoo engine. Since the flat-plance crank version puts out 526hp, 455-526 is a nice range to play in for power.

Yeah but if it's just basically an appearance pkg with a couple of Ford Racing parts like the Bullett usually is then I'd probably pass on it. If it's a different 5.0 from the GT or another engine completely then I'd be interested.

Don't diss the Bullitt :-) The only viable V8 engines at this point would be, in my opinion, as follows -

1) a stock 5.0L
2) a tuned up 5.0L
3) a 5.2 L with the cross-plane crank configuration

Of those, option 3 would be most desirable to me in a Mach 1, but I also would accept option 2. Option 1 would be the least meaningful, depending on the price.

The V8 line now is not like it was in 2002 when you had 260hp SOHC, 305hp DOHC, or supercharged 390hp 4.6L V8s.

We will see what happens. It could be a moot point, of course. A 2018 Bullitt is strongly rumored at the moment, which nicely jives with the 50th anniversary of the movie next year.

Tony,
I think the CPC 5.2 would be the perfect engine for the Mach 1. Thank goodness that the 4.8 rumored to be offered has fizzled out of the conversation.
The dual scooped hood would be perfect for the S500 car, but I'd like to see a different stripe on the sides, something higher that was more in tune with the '71/'72 Mach 1, but even a mid-high stripe like the '73 would work for me.
'71/'72 style sport lamps would be an interesting addition as well.

That would work nicely too. I need to send those suggestions to the person that did work.

If the wheels actually fill the fenders as in the pic, 500 +hp, and an un aerodynamic shaker scoop was offered, I'd be all over it.

No, because it will be way out of my price range. Especially if they add a blower, voodo engine, or other significant upgrades over the GT. Then it will end up being a $60k+ car.

Re: Would You Buy a 2019 Mustang Mach 1 If It Looked Like This?

The Voodoo engine has been said to be exclusive to the GT350 only. Since that car is playing the role of track tuned and highly massaged Shelby Mustang, I don't see it exceeding the GT350 in price. I also don't see it exceeding the power output either, unless a higher horsepower Shelby shows up from Ford.

If it had a solid rear end I'd be down for one.

The "Voodoo" engine is the FPC 5.2L V8, which is exclusive to the GT350. A CPC 5.2L V8 wouldn't be a Voodoo engine. I think 500 hp/500 ft lbs would be nice numbers for a new Mach 1. Less HP than the GT350, but more TQ. More suited for drag strip duty. Would be nice if they brought back the shaker hood scoop.

Yes, that is correct. Up until now, the only CPC 5.2L variant we've seen exists as a Ford Performance item, but if such an engine was done up for Mach 1 duty, it's greater torque potential would be welcome.

Personally, I'd forgo 500hp if it meant more torque. With a .2L increase over the 5.0L, which is at 400ft-lb, I suspect we'd see something more like 430-440 ft lb.

I go back and forth on the shaker scoop, mainly because it would have to be restyled to fit the large expanse of hood. That said, if it looks like it fits and adds a similar induction effect at higher speed like the '03/'04s, I'd be all over that.

Yeah, 485 HP and 460 ft lbs of TQ are probably more realistic numbers from a production CPC 5.2L V8, which I'm more than okay with. I agree with you about the shaker scoop, it shouldn't look slapped on. It has to flow well with the look of the new mustang hood.

Not really liking the hood stripe with the scoops. Without a shaker, I'd ditch the stripe.

A more prominent side stripe would be more in line with the dual scooped 71-73 Mach 1s. Looks good overall though.

Re: Would You Buy a 2019 Mustang Mach 1 If It Looked Like This?

After trading in my 2014 GT with the Brembo brake package for a 2017 Lincoln MKZ with the Driver package (400HP with 400LBS of torgue), I am very interested in a MACH 1 if introduced in 2018.

The Lincoln goes 0-60 in 4.8 seconds and in the HD Performance mode handles quite good on back roads.
