Time For Shocks
Need advise, my stockers have given up the ghost and would like something adjustable. While I would like to go with Strange 10 ways, I read to much about how much NVH they transfer. So I'm looking at Tokico Dspecs, Illuminas, and KYB AGX.
I basically daily drive my Mach and am happy with my power level and go to the strip once a month, but live and haul aXX through the canyons. I want shocks the will allow me weight transfer at the strip without sacrificing handling or NVH. Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Re: Time For Shocks
You need to check out Koni Yellow Single & then Double adjustables Koni has a sale every year that is well advertised... I consider Bilsteins the top of the pile but expensive too

Re: Time For Shocks
Do you ever run them down the drag strip, If so, being that they are not quite as adjustable as others, does it work for you?
I'm really wanting the Dspecs because of there two way adjust ability. With that being said, they are a lot more expensive then the AGXs. Question is, Do you race them at the strip and feel a substantial weight transfer and grip improvement, and how is the NVH when set for daily driving? Again thanks for your replies!

Re: Time For Shocks
While they are 2 way adjustable they are only controlled by turning ONE knob. so you cant tune then individually. That being said I DD them set at 3.5 turns from full firm. Weight transfer perfect. I dont track my car but i like to practice at traffic lights. At that setting you can feel the firmness...you can set them at like 5 turns out and it softens up nicly but Id rather have performance!! Ive got 5+ years and over 100k miles on em.

Re: Time For Shocks
I ended up having to put the KYBs at their firmer setting. Initially I had them too soft and the as$ end was squatting too hard on the launch. I've had them at the firmer side for a while and left them there for street and strip. For the money I'm happy with them.

Re: Time For Shocks
I wish I would have waited a bit longer and opted for an adjustable set. I have Koni STR.T's. They don't suck, but they are not great either.
As far as adjusting them..do you usually have to get down underneath to them, or do they typically have adjustment knobs at the top of the shock/strut?

Re: Time For Shocks
The adjustment knobs on my shocks are at the bottom. I can barely reach them from the floor without raising the car up.
After I got them setup how I wanted, I haven't needed to touch them since.

Re: Time For Shocks
Dspecs you adjust with an allen up top. they also have a knob adapter thing that you can buy and mount in the trunk so its easier to adjust.

Re: Time For Shocks
What springs are you running with your D-Specs?

Re: Time For Shocks
I have a 3 link in the rear so I have MM-42ta5 370 -440lbs. I ran the stock spring with them as well.

And you liked them with the stock springs as well? I've got Sportlines and they have less travel than the stock springs, but not terribly stiff.

Re: Time For Shocks
Koni adjustables are set with a knob on top of the shocks/struts. Easily accessible but you will have to drill a hole in the rear trunk liner to access the top of the shock... no big deal.... or leave the liners out, (not feasible for my thinking)

Re: Time For Shocks
Eruza: yeah they were good with the stock springs too.
I plan on using Koni DA Struts when I upgrade the front suspension. |
