Plug Blow out!

Friday nite was good air, so I thought I'd dig out the Mach and go run in the shootout at Little River. Friday's are back to 1/4! Car felt really good, only really hit it on a rural road, but then about Liberty Hill, 40mi from home it started to shake & pop, obviously down a cylinder! Figured it to be a coil, so I ordered a new set of MSD's. But then I took the COP cover off and wahhlaa!
The plug had blown out and destroyed the coil and boot.
When I went to re-install a plug, no luck, won't tighten.
Found out it is an issue with Modular Fords, so I guess I will look for somebody to repair it, Helicoil I guess!

Yep; that is an issue with the 03s.

Look for a Timesert or Lock and Stitch. They're better than a helicoil.

And send the MSD's back. Get a stock replacement.

Re: Plug Blow out!

You Timesert kit 5553. I bought mine used one ebay. Used it, then resold it. Total cost when done was about 40 bucks. You can do it yourself or pay someone else a lot more. http://www.timesert.com/html/triton_repair.html

Re: Plug Blow out!

Make sure you get the aluminum insert and as mentioned there are better choices than the heli coil. Check your other plugs while you're at it
