Bring a fat pocketbook fellas. I have a feeling that the new Shelby stangs aren't the only new muscle round town that are gonna send dealership markups skyrocketing.

Re: The countdown begins
Yup, and we will look back at the b*tching over the Shelby ADM's....these things are gonna be WAY overpriced...for another pig to boot...lol If the rising gas prices don't kill this market before they get here, it will be cool to see the Mustang answer to it...not to mention the Blue Devil Corvette that will be out by then. The Mustang will stay on top as it always has imho.

Re: The countdown begins
I really love the car, but with premium already north of $3 a gallon, gas guzzler taxes and ADMs, I am losing interest in the whole shebang rather quickly. At this point, I don't know if I'd even pay MSRP for a GT500.
At least the Mach gets decent MPG!

Re: The countdown begins
Too bad Plymouth is dead.
I always liked the 'Cuda and its name.

Re: The countdown begins
Agreed, I have always liked the styling of the 'Cuda better than the Challenger. I have driven and worked on many E-Body Mopars (Challenger and Barracuda) over the years, and the differences between the Challenger and the 'Cuda were enough to cause me to prefer the 'Cuda. Not just the styling differences, but the difference in the wheelbase made the 'Cuda feel more "sporting".

Re: The countdown begins
I can almost guarantee you wont find that new Challenger for under $40-50k unfortunately. I have been drooling over that thing since I saw the concept model. Maybe in a few years after college when I'm settled down I might own one of those haha.

Re: The countdown begins
Did you sign up for the package deal when they were gauging interest in the car?

Re: The countdown begins
Let's put it this way. I read that DCX's actual reason for not building a V6 model is that they couldn't even "hope" to build one that had a chance of competing with the V6 stangs in the price department. I would have to guess, from that statement, that a V6 Challenger would have cost nearly as much, as much, or maybe more(?) than a current model Mustang GT. So I don't even want to know what an R/T.......let alone an SRT, is gonna MSRP for. And I fear the dealer markups even more.
Don't get me wrong, I'd looooove to park a nice black R/T Challenger next to my 05 GT. But I'm doing myself the service of not getting my hopes up too high for it. I'm hoping DCX has a high quality pony car on their hands, since the asking prices are gonna be high anyway....rather than go cheap on it just to compete with the Mustang sales volume..........which is really a foolhardy task to begin with.

Re: The countdown begins
Maybe Im the only one but I like the look of the daytona chargers much more than the challenger. Challenger looks bland to me. Charger looks mean

Re: The countdown begins
When I was 16 years old I bought a freshly repainted 1970 'Cuda 383 Magnum from a friend's uncle who owned a body shop on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago. $1150 out the door. It was a rarity to see another one on the road. I drove it for 10 years and sold it for 3 times that amount. I will never own another car I appreciate as much as that one.

Your post pretty much sums up the way I feel about it too. I would love to get one, but I have a hard enough time talking myself into buying any new car that I know I could get a year later gently used for thousands less. And with these Challenger it's going to be mark-up city, so the idea I would buy one new is just silly... maybe in 2012, LOL. Both of my cars now (04 Mach and 04 Marauder) were both 3 years old when purchased. Both had about 13K on the odo when I bought them and I saved about $20,000 combined than if I had bought them new.

Re: The countdown begins
I want one as bad as you because I am KEEPING the Mach, and Carolyn will be paid off around 2009. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get one until I get out of military service ;P
oh well, by that time price mark-ups on the Challenger might go down 1-3K....... or not. |
