Comp Cams in stock Motor?
Alright I know this is not the best situation.
I have a set of Comp 278 Cams with 2K miles on them from my buddies Cobra we pulled them to go with 99 Cobra cams since he is now going turbo. I got the cams from him in the turbo deal. I am putting a Mach1/Aviator engine in my 93 GT(not my first 4V swap into a Fox) I want to keep it N/A and put a small shot on it down the road. I just wanna put some N/A budget 4V Fox on these N/A budget LSx Foxes around here I wanna run my Cams only 4.6L 4V to their Cam only 5.3l LSx Intakes/headers are a given as well as custom tunes. If I can make 350 RWHP I can toast these cam-only 5.3L Foxes. I already took the bolt-on LSx camaro's with my Bolt-on stock Mach1 motor 1998 Cobra. I have some 99 Cobra cams too but was thinking they won't be enough to get me to 350 RWHP(5-speed). I know I will need springs to put the 278's in but will they hit(PTVC) ? I have a PSR intake I can install also. Would a 270 cam get me there(sell or trade my 278's and get 270's) Todd ??? Nick ??? Anyone got any ideas? |

Re: Comp Cams in stock Motor?
We put comp 106400's in my buddy's car all it had was k&n cai and bassani mid length headers, o/r x pipe SLP catback. So it would be considered a "cam only" car. Made 371rwhp.

Re: Comp Cams in stock Motor?
106500s are overkill and have tuneability issues. I personally wouldn't run them. In a stock engine there won't be any PTV contact if they are installed at 112/116.
Better options would be the 106060s or 106100s

Re: Comp Cams in stock Motor?
Idle and part throttle driveability
106400s don't have the tuning issues that the Comp 278 Cams-106500s have.

With ported heads I'm hoping to see over 400 with ease. Check out my dyno vid on YouTube

Re: Comp Cams in stock Motor?
There are no driveability issues with 106400s, the OP is asking about 106500s which are far more aggressive.
The only way to hit 400rwhp with ported heads is by adding an intake manifold that will raise the point where peak power occurs, like a 5-6" short runner, sullivan or FR500. Naz's ported head, 10" short runner, cammed (similar to 106400s) combos made 380. The bottleneck is the intake. Dynojet?
