+1

4.10's or 4.30's would be a good choice. I have 4.10's and have no complaints whatsoever, either during daily driving or on long road trips.

Re: Gear Help!!

I went with the 4.30 and am very pleased. They removed my axles during the install, so I upgraded those to Moser 28 hardened spline axles too.

Re: Gear Help!!

Depends on what your use needs to be. My friend went 4:56 and they are great for punch. However, he only takes it out for Drag Racing or for shwoing off. I went with 4:10s because I wanted mine to be very streetable. And it is! I am turning 2600 at 80mph. So you can see highway is alright.

Oh, and yes, you do feel a good bit of difference with the 4:10s. We will find out what that amounts to when I get to the track Saturday.

Good luck!

Re: Gear Help!!

In my Mach, I have run the stock 3.55s, 3.90s, 4.10s, and 4.30s so far. I liked the 4.30s the best for all around performance and general driving. The 3.90s were an improvement on the 3.55s, but not enough to justify the amount of work I did swapping them (I have an '03 Cobra IRS, and do all my own wrench turning). I installed the 4.30s while the Mach still had a solid axle, they were fun but no traction if I didn't walk it out and step into the throttle gradually. The current gears are 4.10s in a Thunderbird (cast Iron) pumpkin in the IRS. The traction loss is not as severe with the 4.10s in the IRS, since the torque reaction that lifts the right tire with a solid axle is absorbed by the IRS subframe. As for mileage, the worst mileage I got was with the 3.55s, the 4.30s occasionally netted 25 mpg on the interstate at 70 mph on trips and 20.5 mpg around town. The 4.10s give me the same results for mileage. Your results may differ, but this is what I observed on my Mach with my normal useage.

Re: Gear Help!!

Just put 4:10's in my '04 Azure 5-speed along with aluminum driveshaft.
In my humble opinion, they are the perfect gear for the street
and the car pulls hard in every gear.

Re: Gear Help!!

I went 4.56 and love it. It's a daily driving with one heck off a punch. I've taken two friends of mine pushing 530 on one and 600+ on the other for ride and they are extremely shocked at what my car. Both have said that their cars don't put you in the seat as hard as mine does. 3000 rpm at 80mph !!!!

4.10

You won't be disappointed. Your gas milage won't change unless your driving style changes.

Re: Gear Help!!

4:30's mine is a daily driver, I get over 20 MPG every tank and 5th gear is usable in city driving. Only warning, the first few times you hit it in 1st gear you may hit rev limiter it comes very quick . I love my gears!!
