These storms are a real tough. You don’t want it to hit you, and yet don’t want your neighbors to get hit either. Real conundrum.

Hope ya'll stay safe. I can understand the anxiety that you go thru after living in Corpus Christi for 25+ years. I rode one out one year and I never did that again.

Lots of wind and heavy rains late last night an dearly this morning, but nothing too serious here. The Lake Charles and Lafayette areas got hit pretty hard.

Looks like Delta is on her way to New Orleans later this week...

As luck would have it, I have to be there at the same time the forecast says this storm will hit Louisiana.
Having never been in NO or weathered a hurricane, what do I need to know about this?

Unfortunately, staying home is not going to be a viable option.

If it’s a fast mover the worst part will be the winds. Lower lying areas will flood from storm surge.

NO floods a lot due to elevation. Power outages are a real pain.

I was fortunate during Ike and Harvey where I only lost power @ an hour or so during each...my folks went without power for about a month with IKE...

Expect you will be without power for a couple days and stock up on some useable dry goods, plenty of water, and hunker down.

Fill any bath tubs with water so you can use the toilet assuming the water treatment plants are operational...etc...

Get there by no later than Thursday. Friday is going to be ugly, and early Saturday the worst of it. Be ready to not have power or be able to go anywhere for at least 24 hours if it hits hard. If they tell you to leave, do so immediately. Just be ready to rely on yourself and those around you. Kinda like a pandemic, but with wind and lots of water.



Update: looks like it's going to be an earlier arrival than we thought, with Friday afternoon as landfall for the storm.

The spousal unit is already there and said she is loading up on bottled water, flashlights and a some of food. She drove, so we at least have a vehicle to wait in traffic in if evacuation is necessary.
I'm supposed to fly in Thursday morning.

I appreciate the straight-forward feedback/advice, gentlemen; rather than saying something like 'you idiot, you're supposed to go the other way'.
On a personal level, this wedding has caused a bit of friction in my life lately. So to be heading into a hurricane because of my marriage is just turning a metaphor into a real life situation.

Man your not dumb for asking serious questions about how to deal with it if you never been in one. situation is different each time and depending on the place.

Hey Ash, thank you for checking up.
This could be a complicated question, as the older I get the more I find that I don't understand.
But in the context of this thread - everybody made it home safely and doing well.


Just some unscientific observations...
Me explaining what a German-American Type-A personality means to my French-American sister-in-law when I say we are leaving at 10:15 - if you are here at 10:14 you are on-time, if you are here at 10:15 you are late, if you are here at 10:16 you won't be riding with us because we will be gone.

Me not understanding why the spousal unit will buy something we don't need if it is on sale and she perceives that she saved some money, but won't buy something we really need if she has to pay a little extra to get something with exceptional quality.

Me after spending three days with a group of 30+ millennials, all from different states and different families - when the millennials start running America, we're all f_'d.
No offense intended to the select few with active brain cells that can actually engage socially, deal with what's going on around them and actually lift a finger to do something.
