Broke spider gear?

Hey guys im new to this page. I have a serious problem and not really sure what caused it. If anyone has seen this or might know what caused it your feed back would be greatly appreciated. I was changing the gear oil in the rear end of my 03 mach 1 and seen chunks missing from the teeth of the spider gear.

Re: Broke spider gear?

Time for new Spider gears or a new Diff altogether...
Clean out the housing, check the gear set carefully.

IT happens. Any number or reasons from poor maintenance, improper install, hard launches on sticky tires etc...If you bought the car used you never know who did what to it prior.

My best friend stripped all the teeth off his spider gears in his 69 mach with a 9" rear. So...(cleveland powered 4-speed 4.56 gears) it happens to the best of them....

Re: Broke spider gear?

Usually spider gear failure is a mixture of things worn clutches and hard launches.
The worn clutches allows play so the gears get slammed and fracture. You might be able to replace them but depending on how much metal the ring and pinion are. It may be time to do a full upgrade.
