a note on coated and braided PTFE fuel line

if you get any of the braided PTFE fuel hose that now has the plastic/rubber type coating you better have a bench vise, aluminum vice jaws for hose assembly, appropriate cutters and a mini pipe cutter ( a razor or exacto knife on hand is also highly recommended)

the cloth covered stuff is still bad enough but this ****...without the vice, forget it.

my return style kit ran the fuel lines in a dead head setup, Im undoing that so I need new lines. I already had the vice jaws and cutter from previous adventures but had to add the pipe cutter etc...

Got everything figured out last night, new crossover hose made, feed line is half way assembled then I just need to make a return line to the regulator (which is on the fender is all) then leak check it all

Also, i boil a cup of water. Stick the hose end in the water for a couple minutes. Then put your fittings in the freezer for about 15 minutes. then throw on a little lube of your choice on the fitting and slide that fitting right on!.

I think ive installed them all now, and the Fragola 4000 series black hose is the worst lol..

thats more for push-lock style, thats not really gonna help with this stuff.

I did learn with the mini pipe cutter (having never used one before) to start with really light tension and make a couple turns so you get a nice straight indent started then tighten a little more, make a few more turns and repeat until you see the silver brading.

Re: a note on coated and braided PTFE fuel line

Ive used just a cutting wheel on a grinder, some black electrical tap and two crescent wrenches for the hose i use.

What hose are you using?

I refuse to install or work with that fragola hose and fittings. Too much of a pain.

Re: a note on coated and braided PTFE fuel line

I used black electrical tape on the cut line and a hack saw with a fine blade.

Yes, the vice with adapters is the only way to go.

its the Fragola braided PTFE stuff, Im not risking having gas vapor smell issues. The new black colored stuff doesnt use a fabric cover its a clear coated black plastic coating of some kind.

Now that Ive done it a few times its really not bad, Ive got it down where it doesnt take long at all. The worst part is just trying to get the hose lengths correct. You really need to have the correct tools on hand though or this **** would be impossible to work with

My bad , thought you were referring to Push to lock fittings which i still like but the other style (Forget the term for them) that use the little collar are the way to go.. Yea i Tape off where it needs to be cut using any tape and use a chop saw so its a straight cut lol.

Are you going to a return style or just adding in Fuel rails ?

Re: a note on coated and braided PTFE fuel line

I'm already return style, I'm getting rid of the dead head setup. I don't care what they say, I've seen the logs and it's not ideal

In that note two more leaky hose ends leaking at the little pin, to say I'm not a happy camper would be quite the understatement
