Re: 03 04 mach 1 rear-end

I just wanted to throw this out there: 28 and 31 spline axles are the same diameter.

Not where it counts...on the splined end.

Also, companies like Moser use a different forging technique for strengthing the axle. If I was worried about it, I'd just get forged 28 spline axles...much cheaper than doing a whole 31 spline make-over, and no special tools required! Of course that would be if I just wanted to use Drag Radials on a mostly stock mach.

No there not. I just had a set of 31's side by side with the 28's.

Re: 03 04 mach 1 rear-end

If you have 31 spline axles, then yes, you better have a 31 spline carrier. But other than this, your ABS rings, your axle bearings, and your carrier bearings will all be the same. That, in my book, tells me they are the same diameter, except for the last few inches perhaps.

EDIT: The axles don't actually come into contact with the carrier bearings, so that point doesn't count--my bad. If the spline ends of 28 and 31 spline axles are a different diameter, then I must not have noticed. I'll take DTMach1's word for it.

Usually when axles twist, break it's at the splined end...so I'll take the increased beef
