Re: Poll:Who does and doesn't have the "tick"
you guys got me all paranoid thinking about it so i took the mach out for a drive and got it nice and warm and parked it to listen for ticking. i'm pretty sure i don't have it. there is an equal amount of noise(ticking, clicking, whatever you wanna call it) comming from each side of th engine. i bent down and put my ear right by where the hood meets the fender and listened and there is some ticking from both sides of the motor, but it sounds normal to me. my last car did have a really loud valve train though(5.0, they just run better if they sound like they might fall apart). the one thing i did notice was how much my shaker rattled and squeeked. gotta get that fixed

Re: Poll:Who does and doesn't have the "tick"
Dang I guess im unlucky with the tick, i have had it on all of my cars. 03 Gt w/ 2,400, 01 Bullitt w/ 14,900, and now my 04 mach w/ 7,400. My 03 was brand new w/ 12 miles and it ticked the first time I got in it. I guess the sound is normal to me now since all 3 cars do or have done it. I dont worry about it though. All of my friends w/ mustangs tick also.

I am not sure if mine has the tick yet. I only have under 5000 miles as of right now.

Re: Poll:Who does and doesn't have the "tick"
mine definetly has the f'n tick, getting exhast definetly helped keep my mind off the tick, but before i got the exhaust my tick was very loud and constant never died off not at warm up, all the time, mine got a faster tick upon acceleration and louder, its embarrising and i wish ford wasnt so non shalant about the problem, im sure its going to end up being something serious and we will all have are cars in the shop after our 3 year warranty's are up and having to get new heads put on our cars, and we will probably have very little people wanting to buy these cars having this problem.
when i took my car into ford they check it over said they retorqed the valve covers saying that it would lessen the sound, but they cant fix it, and that it is very typical and normal sound on this car and the cobra, the also said that this is under investigation with ford, yea f'n right they know they aren't doing crap, sorry for being so pissed, but i think you understand. |

Hey I think it is a bunch of sh!T they wont fix it. Something has to be done to remedy the problem. That is a bunch of crap. When mine gets the tick heads are going to turn. I will throw a huge stink.

I will throw a huge stink. I have noticed a small tick, but it isn't that bad and sounds normal like my old gt used to do. If it gets louder I will be mad. Anyone have trouble getting their car into gear when it is cold? That is more of a problem for me.

Re: Poll:Who does and doesn't have the "tick"
I took my Mach to the dealer today for the tick. It has 30k miles and it doesn't tick when it's cold it starts ticking after it warms up and it's a very loud tick coming from the passenger side of the motor. At first it was a very light tick now it is a loud tick. The first dealer I took it to told me it was normal. So I took it to another dealer and the service manager told me there was a TSB out for motors that develope the tick when the motor warms up. I should find something out tomorrow if not Monday I will post again when I recieve more information.

Re: Poll:Who does and doesn't have the "tick"
My car had 30,000 miles on it when I took it to the dealer and they replaced the driver side head. The ticking had gone away, but now at 42,000 the ticking has come back. It starts ticking after the engine heats up, I guess it will be back in the shop soon.

Re: Poll:Who does and doesn't have the "tick"
Mine tick after a long drive down the highway but not every time. Strange, I haven't had a chance to really listen for it but it can be heard on the inside of car.

Mine can tick, but only every once in a blue moon. It will tick like once every couple of months.

Re: Poll:Who does and doesn't have the "tick"
My 04 Mach had the tick at 17,000 miles. Cylinders 7 & 8 get the most heat causing the valve seats to warp thus making the valves stick causing the tick. My drivers side head was replaced by Ford. Headers were installed at this time to help cool 7 & 8 and of course more horsepower. My info on the valve seats came from of all places SCT.
