96-99 Cobra v2 s-trim kit on 03 Mach 1 questions..

Hey fellas hope I can get some answers around here,I think I'm on the right track so we'll see..I bought a 96-99 vortech v2 non intercooled kit and from what I'm reading and according to vortechs instructions the 96-99 and 01-04 kits for DOHC 96-99 cobras and machs are very different and it seems that's due to the differences of the timing covers..My question is,if I swapped a 96-99 timing cover onto my Mach would anything other than making a custom bracket for my shaker hold me up? I know the 01-04 kits relocate the alternator and add a idler pulley and bracket to the head unit bracket,i read this was for better belt wrap the 01-04 tensioners/timing covers can't provide. The vortech bracket kit for the Mach is $400,a timing cover is $100 but a bit more labor which is fine with me,id rather save the coin..just curious if I go the 96-99 cover my kit will work 100% on my Mach..I will be wiring up an external IAT and have a lightning maf also..

Also if anyone has ran a march sfi balancer (underdrive) what smaller blower pulley was used to compensate for the lower boost? 3.33? Trying to keep it around 8/9 psi and I know a UD pulley takes boost away I figured I could downsize the blower pulley from a 3.6 (8 psi with stock crank pulley) to bring the boost back up..Any thoughts? I know it's looked down on to have a UD pulley and a blower but I trust this balancer at 7k rpm way more than a stock one!

I may be wrong here, but this seems like an awful lot of fab work and trouble for a kit that is available for these cars. Why not sell this kit you have and buy the correct kit? I'm assuming that the price difference after all the fabbing won't be much different after it's all said and done.

I agree. Look for a setup made for a Mach 1 and you'll be happier with it from the get go and all the way down the road. Btw, the 96 and 99 cobras are not the same. The 99+ cobras are more similar to the Machs and Terminators. The 96-98 are alike.

Fab work? Changing a front timing cover is fab work? Lol..all I'm asking is if I change the timing cover will the kit work other than modifying the shaker bracket (which you have to do regardless if you have a 96-99 or 01-04 vortech kit) I don't see the confusion...I can get a timing cover from my buddy for free and the bracket kit for the Mach is $360 + shipping..

I can change a timing cover in 2 hours..

Timing covers are the same 96-99.. they use 3 bolt tensioners

Re: 96-99 Cobra v2 s-trim kit on 03 Mach 1 questions..

FWIW, when I had the Vortech it was recommended to change to the 96-99 timing cover. I guess it's possible to get the belt off without removing the blower on the 96-99 set up. I hated my Vortech set up and knew I wasn't keeping it. So I never bothered to swap anything.

Talking to a fellow member who has done what I'm looking to do with the timing cover swap on his Mach.seems making the shaker bracket work is even easier with the 96-99 cover and blower kit rather than the Mach 1 kit
