Painted my Ford emblem, check it out
Not sure what sparked the idea, but the Ford emblem is the only blue thing visible on my car. I looked around for a place to buy a black one, but my google searches were fruitless. I eventually came upon this guy's write-up on how to do it yourself, so he should get the credit.
http://mustangforums.com/forum/4-6l-...-yourself.html basically the emblem is two peices, the outer crome oval and the plastic with the lettering. simply put, all you need to do is separate the pieces, and sand all of the blue off of the back of the inner piece. the Ford lettering is recessed into the plastic, so it gets that 3D look from the front, but this also means that you won't harm it by sanding the paint off of the flat area. instead of taking mine off first, I went to late model resto and bought a new one for $25, that way if I screwed up my project the car would still be untouched. one thing to note, don't use weatherstripping cement to put the pieces back together! after letting my paint sit for 3 days to make sure it was good and set, I started putting it back together with that and it peeled the paint right off. had to sand the paint back off again and start that part over. I used clear silicone this time and that seemed to work great. through the whole process I kept painters tape on the front of the emblem so it wouldn't get scratched from laying face down on stuff. I think the end result is a nice, unique, subtle touch. might look even better on other mach colors.

Re: Painted my Ford emblem, check it out
the emblem has alignment pins on the back and on the front where the plastic part lays so you can't really put it together upside down, and there's only one way it will fit on the car.

Re: Painted my Ford emblem, check it out
ya that's the thing, I couldn't find any place that did the actual ford emblem but in a different color. other mustang forums have links to some site that used to do it for $50, but the site is shut down now. there was another site I found that has custom emblems that say like 'Fast' or other things in place of Ford, but I didn't want to change the whole emblem, just the color. I think it's a copyright thing, Ford probably doesn't want anyone making money off of messing with their blue oval.
and ya, this can be done way cheaper than anything you'd buy. the trick is just getting the two pieces apart; there isn't very much room between the pieces at all. gotta find like the tiniest screwdriver you can and be super careful.

Re: Painted my Ford emblem, check it out
yeah that's doable too, just gotta take the extra step to get all the chrome out of the letters and the ring around the outside, not sure what would be the best way to tackle that. once you got the letters clean you could spray it black, let it cure and then sand the back again and paint it yellow.

Re: Painted my Ford emblem, check it out
You sir are an artist, I tried this last night and failed miserably. I cracked and chipped the heck out of the logo while trying to get it off. Once I got it off, I decided just to go with it just for fun. After sanding the paint off, it was all scratched up and I tried an even higher grit paper and still failed. Needless to say, you're an amazing artist or I am the worst artist known to man. Good work my friend.

Re: Painted my Ford emblem, check it out
Thanks for the compliments, sorry yours didn't turn out well . I may have oversimplified it in my post because I linked to the write up I was going off of. Separating the two pieces was the hardest part for me as well. I was fortunate in a sense, the emblem I got from LMR was put together badly, one edge was already sticking out so I was able to take advantage of that. Heating the emblem up with a hairdryer is really important too, otherwise the plastic is more prone to chip or crack. I used miniature screwdrivers (like the kind for really small screws, like eyeglasses) to try to pry it up more, once I got one under it it was cake. Afterwards I had to use the hairdryer to bend it back to being flat again. My pictures don't show it well but my emblem isn't flawless, I chipped it a tiny bit and boogered up the chrome as well on the right side, so I'm not perfect.
