Finally finished filling and painting my Cobra rear bumper

I finally finished filling and painting my 03 Cobra bumper.

It a chore to get everything all smooth. Used a fiberglass body filler, spray can primer, wet sanded, 3 base coats, 2000 grit wet sand, 1 coat base, 3 coats clear.

Just need to wait about a week and then I'll give it a 2000 grit wet sand and buff.

Then install it

I'm still considering putting Mach 1 on the back with a semi gloss decal about the size of the "MUSTANG" on the back of the stocker.

Opinions??

Re: Finally finished filling and painting my Cobra rear bumper

Total cost is:

Bumper: $200 (found it used from a guy locally)
Paint and materials: $100
____

$300 for a painted OEM bumper. Not too bad

Put it on. Not bad for being painted outside with Napa paint.

I love it. If you don't like the clean, plain look. Then you probably won't like it.

Re: Finally finished filling and painting my Cobra rear bumper

I like it! I am a fan of the 03/04 Cobra rear bumpers. Maybe one day I will spend the money on one and fill it in like you did.

I thought you had a cobra spoiler too?

It would complete the look.

Re: Finally finished filling and painting my Cobra rear bumper

the first AB mach i saw that had the shaved 03/04 cobra rear i was in love and wanted it for mine, and then you posted yours and i just reminded me that i would love to have that.

i do think the Saleen rear bumper shaved it (outside exhaust one) would look good as a rear bumper to use

Nice, good job.

I would have removed the side markers and filled them in instead of painting over them. You already went through all that trouble.

When I saw your car I got the motivation to do mine. Love how your car is set up. Is it Azure Blue? It looks like the color is slightly different than OEM.

Here are the big pics of mine in case you missed them in the pic section.

Re: Finally finished filling and painting my Cobra rear bumper

Yup, mine is OEM Azure Blue - the doors, pillars, and roof are still factory and untouched paint wise. Might just be the camera - just a HTC cell camera.

The bumper is a clean look! Congrats.

Just in case anyone is looking for one already done.

http://www.abcexclusive.com/bumpers_main.htm

I might have to order one here soon. I would fill a cobra bumper, But I would be to concerened about the filling cracking.

I've heard that they have very poor fitment. A guy on here had to take it back because his body guy said there was no way to get it to fit.

Re: Finally finished filling and painting my Cobra rear bumper

The ABC bumper doesn't fit too well. A friend of mine got it, and there are large gaps between the tail light and bumper, the rear part looks pulled in towards the gas tank, and the sides are too angled.

Just me but I think adding a spoiler, any spoiler, would take your cars rear end over the top. Bumper looks great though
