Stinger GT
So I took the grocery-getter out to the store for a stretch and didn't know what this car is that parked next to me but it looked pretty cool...
Turns out to be a frikkin Kia sedan that will outrun my Mach. ![]() Must admit I have become vehicle manufacturer "agnostic" in the past few years, but still think it is sad that Ford is not competing in this space. Attempting to host a pic via Pintrest; not sure how this is going to work: ![]() |

Re: Stinger GT
You're right in that it's sad that Ford doesn't play in that sandbox and could be a power there. Even if they could do it as a Lincoln, an updated Torino (?), Fairlane (?), Falcon (?) or SHO something would be cool.

Re: Stinger GT
most companies are in the process of trimming cars from their lineups, can't really blame Ford there. The biggest profits and sales trends are trucks and SUVs/Crossovers

Re: Stinger GT
I bought my second Mach 1 recently. It's noisy, it's visceral, it rattles, and shakes. To me that is the experience. It doesn't bother my that a soccer mom in a Tesla will rip my doors off; though I will admit that it took me 30 years to get to that head space. (Some lunatic is always going to be quicker, no matter how quick you are.)
My 17 Ecoboost made as much power, was quiet, got great mileage; completely different experience. It's obvious which one I chose. I would take your car next to that THING all day long. I don't care if it ran a 5 second standing 1/4. I think the body lines of the Mach 1 will prove to be timeless. Not just a GT with a fancy hood. Ford is dipping it's toe in the water with the MachE (Why did they have to desecrate the Mustang Name Plate????) and have in the past with the SHO cars. They have the tech, but I don't think they can come in at a price point yet to be really competitive. Especially if a new GT is north of 40 grand. Nor come up with a body style that has mass appeal. It would be badass to see the Falcon or Fairlane nameplate come back, provided they do it justice. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Stinger GT
They are pretty sharp looking. I am sad too...It would be nice to see where the Fusion sedan would have gone in performance. I guess people are buying sedans from mostly a certain manufacturer, like Toyota etc.

I love that the windshield wipers will only come on when I turn the switch and I alone adjust the speed. I love that it doesn't care when I put it in reverse and back up with the door open. I love that it doesn't incessantly ding at me when backing up into the garage. I love that it doesn't go ballistic with dinging when I happen to take off without my seatbelt on. I love that the horn doesn't beep at me when I get out while the engine is still running. I love that it has an actual gear shifter instead of a stupid rotating knob. I love that the trunk doesn't automatically open when I walk too close to the back bumper. I love that it isn't programmed to think that it drives better than I do. But Imma dinosaur that grew up backing up horse trailers and hay trailers with cantakerous early '70s model Ford and Chevy pick-ups two to three years before I was old enough to get a license. _ |

Re: Stinger GT
Yes it is insane what the new cars are coming out with on power.
My son saw a Mach E at the dealership when we were there and came and told me. I was like son "no its not a Mach and it isn't a Mustang." That Mach E is a shame and could have been name something else. I believe though that the Mach has become something that just stands out, like the 03/04 Cobra's. Honestly, if a guy pulled in with a new GT and me with the Mach, I believe the Mach will get looked at more than that GT would. I might be slower, but still looking good. ASh

Re: Stinger GT
What really chaps me is that Hot Wheels actually makes the Kia in its regular line, as well as recently releasing a GTO from our time frame, but nooooooo Mach 1! Stupid Mattel!!!

Re: Stinger GT
Ford has had plenty of opportunities to enter that space. They chose to drop cars, focus on crossovers/Suv's and enter the electric car space. It is a shame. The Fusion platform could have been a great twin turbo AWD car. Stinger is a runner, but its a KIA (Killed in Action). Would not bank on the quality...They are not known for longevity...

Re: Stinger GT
Too bad SVT never got around to playing with one of those, could've been fun!
Most don't remember the SVT Contour, but they did that, too as well as the SVT Focus. ![]()

Re: Stinger GT
It will? I knew they were pretty good at acceleration, but I didn't think they were sub 14 sec quarter mile.

Jump forward to 2018 and I regained the itch to own another and it took me two years to find one that fit my checkboxes and drove from FL to IL to get it in Dec 2020. This is 1987 Shelby GLHS 0564. I am the 5th owner and I have personally reached out to all previous owners except the original owner. 2nd owner had the car painted in 2001 as well as made a contribution to the Carroll Shelby Childrens Foundation to get the drivers sun visor signed by Mr. Shelby. Car has 149k miles on it, but contains all the correct Shelby bits and is overall in great shape. The car like you said, squeaks, rattles, NVH are terrible, but as I tell folks, it is the smiles per miles and would not trade it for anything right now! Something to be said for pre air bags, pre traction control, pre-anti-lock brakes etc..... Heck this pre-dated OBD ports. Only electronics are two power modules for the engine and the radio, that's it! For those who may not know anything about the GLHS, it really a pretty cool car that came out of the beginnings of the performance revival of the late 80's. SORRY all for the HUGE photos. I used Imgur and cannot figure out how to resize them. [IMG] ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Stinger GT
If memory serves me correctly the S stands for "some-more" as in "Goes Like Hell Some-more"
I remember an article on the GLHS Omni in one of the magazines of the day saying the biggest problem was turbo lag, as in don't pull out in front of any fast moving semi's unless you were already into boost. those were fun cars, and with the right mods a lot of fun. Had several friends with them....

Re: Stinger GT
I had an 82 Charger, so I am familiar with the body style. Yours looks a lot nicer than mine did, and I am sure it runs a lot better too!

Re: Stinger GT
Have not ever heard one in anger...idle, and seen a few at shows.
I can say I have had the pleasure of getting passed on the drag strip back at a Fun Ford Weekend years ago, by a local guy with a Thunderbolt Clone with a 4 speed 427 side-oiler. I was on the top end peddling as hard as I could and he came around me, 130+ mph open headers 7k rpm. got me by a .03 or so...that was a glorious loss...LOL... Maybe one day I can hear a 427 Sohc do the same...
