Doh!!! it's a two parter, what about "grand touring" for the second half of the question.

HO

What was the name that nearly made it into production for this Mustang package? Was it "HO" for High Output?

2+2

What classic Mustang model was initially going to be called "SR-2"? Is the answer possibly the "2+2"

The engine was called 5.0 H.O. (for '82 it was a 2V carb.), but not the package. Other Trivia: On the Falcon GT HO, the HO is for Handling Option! Hint: This questions answer is verifiable (as are all questions asked here) in the '82 Mustang owners manual and a pparticular issue of PHR magazine from that vintage.
The SR2 answer is in fact "Boss 302".

The '82 GT package was initially going to be called "SS"! If you look in the owners manual, the section regarding the fog lights only refers to an SS and never a GT and this is the only unique item to that package that garners refernce in the owners manal. The issue of PHR that tested the early production car had SS emblems on the rear spoiler. That would explain why many 5.0 HO cars in '82 were in fact GLX 3 doors, the 5.0 HO was not available with the coupe exept for police cars. Early GT's has stickers instead of emblems on the dash and rear deck spoiler. Tomorrow, a little less fact...a little more legend!

Actually the little V-8 that couldn't was also available in '80 and '82 as well, and only with an automatic. Car magazines laughed at it since a 4 cyl. Accord could stomp all over it. In fact, early 82' GT's did not come standard with the 5.0 engine and could be had with 4 cyl., 6 cyl., and 255 V-8/Auto. this changes around April of that year and the 5.0 HO/4 speed became the only set up on the GT.

For Monday: Legend has it that Carroll Shelby came up with the Cobra name in a dream, how did he come up with the names for the GT-350 and GT-500 Mustangs, since the numbers refer to heither the engine size or power ratings?

350 = the aprox. distance in feet between the production shop and the race shop.
500= Mr. Shelby thought it was a nice, round, even number, and bigger than other mfg's engine size numbers.

I can't keep up with your trivia Falcon, but I'm learning a lot! and enjoying every day of it.

Taking a wild stab at this one...if it's silly, I'll go sit in the corner and blush for a few days.

350 and 500 refer to laps in car races? Thinking maybe he wanted to bring to mind "fast" in a subtle way?

I shouldn't have guessed this, since I don't know if there are 350 lap races.

Right on the money, AZ!

For Tuesday: If you wanted a performance Mustang in '69 or '70 and decided to have A/C as well, what two performance option could you not have?

Could it be power steering and power brakes? Just taking a wild guess, but hey it sounds good!

Off Subject, just kinda
For some of you that might want an oil cooler for your ford-look no further that the local salvage yard. The 5.0 Police cars all had coolers that will bolt right up to your FL1 filter mount. Usually less than $25.00 complete.

This is why I have learned to never say never when it comes to Mustangs.

Mustangs have been popular with various executives over the past 39 years, and executives have no problem "requesting" specific combinations of features and options which the general public can't get.

Let's face it, if Bill Ford's daughter wanted a convertible Mustang with one of those cute scoops on the hood, you would see a convertible Mach 1 running down the assembly line.

No problem, believe me it was a difficult question to word properly. The answers I was looking for were: Drag Pack, and A/C. The Drag pack was not only a locking rear end (with deep gears), but also external oil cooler and external balancer as well as different rods and solid lifters. As far as the Boss 302 with A/C, I've heard that rumor for more years than I can say and I have mentally filed it with the mystical Boss 429 converible as another urban legend...but, you never know!

As we are approacking the Memorial Day weekend, the question for today is: How many times has Mustang been the Pace Car for the Indy 500 and in what years?
