Time to resurrect "This old thread"

For today; What (production) Mustang came with the largest (single)carburator from the factory as standard equipment?

My guess is a 780cfm on the Boss 302?

Falcongtho3:

Keep up the good work on this thread! If you don't think it is worthwhile, look at the number of views! Unfortunately, I am sure there are a great number of people on this site who are Mustang-illiterate, like me. (Only my second mustang in 35 years.) The trivia is great and I am learning a lot as well. I enjoy your posts on this thread and on the many others as well. With the huge number of posts you have, I can only conclude that you live on this website (LOL).

AZDave hit it right on the head! The Small block Boss 302 wore the 780 carb that outsized the carbs on even the mighty Boss 429 and all the Cobra Jet big block cars!

DX, thanks for the good words. I really do appreciate it and I realize that there are people who like this thread and learn form it. That is why I do want the information posted here to be correct, unlike some new Mustang coffee table books...

For today; During the Viet Nam conflict there was a 'Tour' of high performance '70 Mustangs. this was used for show as well as for the teaching of proper high performance driving. There were two Boss 429 "Lawman Super Bosses", one was recently sold at auction. First question; what was the fate of the other Super Boss? Second, what were the other Mustangs and how did they cosmetically differ from stock?

The second Super Boss 429 was crushed by a cargo container when the car was being loaded for shipment during the tour. The other cars featured were 428 CJ Mach 1's with unique paint schemes, Spyder wheels, and some featured lettering in Vietnamese.

Now, we all know (right?) that the 'Turd' was the flip front 390 powered Shelby Cobra that was the blueprint for the 427 Cobra. What was the 'Brick'?

A “brick” was how the Cobra was described aerodynamically. Brock’s coupe (Cobra Daytona) was designed to allow Shelby American to be competitive on longer, faster, european tracks.
You're doing a fine job keeping this thread alive, Falcon. It's a great source of info for everyone.

Thanks! But now...the 'brick' was the 427 powered Daytona Super Coupe. The project was stalled when one of the Daytonas was damaged when a transporter truck hit a bridge and the Coupe scheduled for the transformation was put back into racing service. The project was later restarted on a Cobra chassis and finally completed, and if you see it you'll know why it was called the 'brick'. In all honesty, you're right the regular Cobra was more of an aerodynamic brick!

Spot the error

I thought we'd try something different for today.

In the last issue of Autoweek there was a write up for a Mustang that was sold at auction; spot the problem with this ad.

1968 Ford Mustang Conv. GT/CS, 302 engine, 48,129 miles. Very good paint, chrome shiny. Good top, carpet, interior. Sold @ $17,490.

They forgot to add "very rare". HA!

Didn't know they made GT/CS in conv. form.

Interesting, they didn't make a GT/CS convertable, all were coupes only.
Dang it, need to post faster.

You are both correct. I did send an email to Keith who writes this particular column for Autoweek. I am curious to see if there is a reply, or if gets printed in the letters section (again with any type of reply). I did check with a number of my local 'sources' as well as a couple of GT/CS sites to verify this before posting this little tidbit. I'm really curious to find out how the new owner of this car will feel when/if he finds out the facts. This person may not care at all, but the passing of clones, fakes, and replicas have become a huge problem in the collectors market.

For today; It was built by Rootes, powered by Ford, and imported by Chrysler. What was it called?

How right can you get? I'll bet the PentaStar guys had a tough time swallowing the fact that they had to import a Ford powered sports car, especially when they really had nothing like it!

How about this one? Originally comissioned as the Shelby Mk V, it was produced in a run of 401 cars. It sported a mid mounted 302 engine under a gull wing style engine compartment cover. What was it called?

Right on the money!

Let's try another one...Built in Canada, the company office was in Scottsdale, AZ. The 1974 version was AMC powered, but the 1975 version was updated with a Ford 351. Name that car...

I'm not trying to get:OFFTOPIC: , but you guys are too sharp for me!

Yes, it was the Bricklin SV-1...and spelling isn't what this thread is about...

Built in New Brunswick, Canada the '74 sported an AMC 360 4V, while the 1975 cars had a 351 2V but was the faster of the two years. Thr Ford cars could only be had with an Auto. while the AMC equipped car could be had with stick or auto. There were a small handful built in 1976, but they were pretty much left over '75 parts.

OK, same theme...but easier. This car was sold in Lincoln-Mercury delaerships from '71-'74. Equipped with a mid mounted 351 C 4-V, and backed by a ZF 5 speed this car remained in production and for sale in Europe into the '90's. What was it?

That would be the Model 'J' or GT-40 Mk. IV.

For today, it was called the 'Cooper Monaco', but after Carroll Shelby was done with it what name did it go by?
