i gotta ask about Cobra Tailights

why does it seem like the majority of people on this forum want 99/01 cobra tail lights? i had an 01 cobra and hated those lights more than anything, the amber just makes the back end look terrible imo. most of my friends agreed that they looked terrible and when i joined this forum, i see them selling for $250-$300!!! i was just going to throw mine away when i replaced them. i just dont get it, i think the mach lights are wayyy better, especially when they are sequential

I'm not a fan of the cobra lights. I installed the sequential kit on my stock mach tails, and they look sweet! The amber color looks out of place in my opinion.

I HATED the stock all red lights on my TR Mach! IMHO it was just too much darn red. Sort of like why did you pick the color car that you did? There are factory Mach colors that I would not own, but others love and it's their car so I understand it.

Bottom line is mod your car how YOU want it to be and do not worry about what others think. That is unless they are making your car note. Why bang on folks for how hey want their cars to look. Some people hate the raised shaker look, others like it.


Additionally it allows the car to be driven overseas without drilling or adding stupid amber turn signals if required.

Btw IMHO sequentials in my book are to gimmicky (sp) and I personally would never do them, but who cares.

We All are customizing our cars I get that . But I vote that the orange looks pretty out of place. But thats just me.

Let's not forget the colors of the Machs and Bosses of 69 and 70. Strange oranges and greens, etc. It's what brought a lot of our attention to these cars ( as well as Dodge's crazy colors). Like the man just said. It's your car. Do what you want to do with it so it's pleasing to your way of thinking. Most people will, or should respect that.

I've owned quite a few red cars and tail lights certainly do tend to blend in because of the red. I had an 02 red Eclipse GT and the tail lights were hardly noticeable. Then the next year, Mitsubishi changed from red to a gray tail light with orange and red circle lights. When I saw that, I suddenly liked my red ones a whole lot better.

I personally like the Cobra tailights and have a set on my car. I know not everybody like them, but it's your car.

i get that it's your car and blah blah blah, im just wondering why people choose them. the red on red, that makes sense to me. im not bashing anyone, just curious as to why people like them more

I built a New Edge Mustang from the ground up. (literally)
I never had to think twice on using the 99/01 Cobra (export) tail lights.
They look cool IMHO

Hey.... its just tailights to each their own .If owners want to pay $300 per set thats their thing not mine . I mean i dont own a $500 . FR 500 steering wheel either , cuz stock one does the same thing . Besides, Ill take function over looks every time !

I think its the standard case of "everyone likes what they don't have"

Looks at the bumpers, trunks, etc.
Fr500 steering wheels- Couldn;t give them away when they were produced.. Now they are a mint
FR500 valve covers- $50 a set, now $200+

Etc etc...

I sorta agree. I think a lot of times it just comes down to "its rare, I want it" Not that some don't honestly like the yellow/red combo, just personally I think it stands out like a sore thumb on most color cars. And I'd guess the public didn't care too much for em either since they went away. You could argue it was a cost issue, but with $5k ish price increase of the 03/04's, it easily could have been factored in. The cobra R's have all red lights too don't they?

Then again maybe it's just me as I don't get the FR500 steering wheel either. I've never felt either, but the 10th anniversary cobra wheel looks like it would feel 10x better.

I like them. I think it adds some variety, and I like the amber color. I would consider a pair, but they are expensive.

A no brainer for me, as I need them for UK/European use. I fitted them while we were in the US and I thought they looked OK, not out of place on a Zinc Yellow car.

(BUT I'd swap them for sequentials in a heartbeat).
