17" Drag radial suggestions?

Looking to buy tires for my new true forged wheels. They are

17x8 front. They are a total width of 17x9 so I need a recommendation of a good size to fit nice and square.

17x10 rear. They are total width of 11". So I don't really want a lot of bulge.

I've ran the BFG 315/35/17 years ago and cut 1.7 60. I'd like a tire just as good track wise.

What else is everyone having good luck with? I'd like to be able to get a matching street tire for the fronts. This is the only reason I haven't juts ordered the Mickey Thompsons.

Toyo drags?
Nitto 555r?
Nitto 05r
BFG Drag radial.
Mickey Thompson dr?

Re: 17" Drag radial suggestions?

For a matching street tire with "decent" track performance go woth Nittos...
Best performance IMO will be with the Mickey's though

Re: 17" Drag radial suggestions?

NT05R's or Toyo TQ's if you want matching and don't drive it in the rain much.

I'd just get MT's and get a good street tire for the front.

Re: 17" Drag radial suggestions?

Don't know about the front but on the back I would run 275/40/17 NITTO
NT05R's.
Make sure they are NT05 R's, nitto makes a NT05 without the R they are not as sticky or soft as the R's.

Don't over tire your car it just slow's them down, unless you have 550 HP or better.

Re: 17" Drag radial suggestions?

Toyo Proxes TQs in a 275/295 for the rear would be ideal for your power. To much tire will bog you down unless launching past 4500rpm. A 275 should do the trick. As for the fronts, you can match them with 245/255 Toyo Proxes R888s.

I have 345 TQs right now and cut a 1.8 60 ft. Huge tire, but that's my street tire. I have 275. MT et slicks. And cut 1.7 60 ft (before I was supercharged)

Re: 17" Drag radial suggestions?

What are you guys talking about if you over tire it you will bog??? I have never experienced this. I could see it with a taller sidewall but going from 275s like suggested to wider (say 315s) will result in a bog? wtf lol

Re: 17" Drag radial suggestions?

I think it's more so in going from a smaller 275 that's 28" tall to a 325 that's 28" tall.

You all can do what you want, I had 315's and turned 13.4's with a 2.2 60 ft
as soon as I put bfg 275's I went 13.2 and with nitto NT05r I ran 12.9, 1.9 60 ft. no change in tune or add on's.
I never boged on the line the extra size and weight slows you down, to many guys like to oversize their rear tires for looks, and they do look good but I choose speed over looks. just my 2cents.

Re: 17" Drag radial suggestions?

It def adds extra not needed weight. That's why I want Big and Little's with a 275/50 with a good ole 4.56 gear.

Well your first problem was going to the track on 17/18" wheels. Put some 15" wheels on with ET Drags and see what you gain. That is why I asked if you guys were talking street or track. On the STREET I want 315's so I can launch that added xxxRPMS higher than if I had 275s. From a roll as long as you can hook you will be better with 245s. You have to figure out what your goal is if you are 100% performance oriented.

3.5" wide front wheels SUCK on the road and are flat out dangerous! On one of my "other" cars my street bigs and littles consist of 15x10s in the rear and 15x6s in the front. A nice compromise

Re: 17" Drag radial suggestions?

555r's are good o nthe street, not so good at track.
ET radials rock. NT05R's are just as good.

i have 275 NT05Rs i'll run sometime. and some 335 Hoosiers if i ever feel the need.

That's what I'm afraid of, may just stay with stock wheels and get some dd for the rear. Then again, down the road it wont be a dd.
