How to go fast on the stock motor?
So, everyone seems to say that 450hp it about the limit and even then, its rough.
How can this guy run a stock 2v longblock with twin turbos, make 480hp/500tq and tim and mph say its fine. Cuz...if its fine...then imma start saving moolah haha link to 2v http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=698870

Re: How to go fast on the stock motor?
The dyno run was dated 5/1/07. Lets see how long it lasts at that HP level.

He says he's gonna be at FFW in Houston. Maybe I better bring a mop and broom.

When you factor parasitic losses, you can see how a rwhp measurement coupled with a supercharger through an automatic could be skewed. Hell, 450rwhp through an automatic with a supercharger could mean 600hp at the crank. Whereas 450rwhp with nitrous and stick means around 500hp. Tony

Re: How to go fast on the stock motor?
Well, if it is a manual, that helps. Turbo's are much more forgiving then Most SC's as that belt adds about 50-100+ hp at the flywheel and there is some back pressure on the piston to help the rod stay straight. The compression on the two valve is much lower then our 4 valves, so detonation may not be as much of an issue. And he is only at 9 psi of boost.
I am at 9.5. Still, good luck to the dude. He still has to be very careful about boosting at low rpm's/high load! (ie high gears like 3-4-5) |

Re: How to go fast on the stock motor?
i'd feel safer with turbo'd 450hp than s/c'd 450hp.

I thought for sure with all the work he did on that engine that he would have obviously forged it. I guess not. I'm counting the days till explosion.

Re: How to go fast on the stock motor?
We still need drivetrain mods for the GT but the nearly stock 2V is pushing 445rwhp/428rwtq on 6psi. The built motor can take a solid 9psi and the driveline will be ok up to 500/500 by the time it goes in. This will be a street driven car that may see some autoX action and a rare trip to the drag strip.
The cr will be just below 9/1 and the cams are meant for TT's. The current motor came from a wrecked 03 vert and has forged pistons and cams. We are using a PP Bullitt intake that is the only thing moving to the new motor. I'm thinking he may have a combo that could work. Sure seems like the TT's are easier on the whole car than what I expected.

Re: How to go fast on the stock motor?
You can go fast on the stock motor, that's not the problem. The problem is detonation under a power adder, nitrous being the worst. You can hurt the motor N/A if using crap gas on an aftermarket tune!
Using pump fuel at your local station is the number 1 problem when producing a high performance tune/motor now a days. You need to find/have good octane fuel all the time! I guess you can look at 450 rwhp meaning someone that is careless with their fuel, tune, plug checking/gap/so on, and the factory motor still can be hurt, being the powdered metal rods are the weak link. Second, are the factory pistons top ring land thickness. It's a safe average is how I look at it.
