MM CC plates noise

I just installed Eibach Pro Kit springs and MM CC plates. The MM plates make a noise when I hit small bumps or road patch work. I have played with the spacers in many different sequences and can't get the noise to go away. The least amount of noise is when I have 2 large and 1 small spacer under the plate and 1 small on top. I can feel it under my feet. I understand the rubber is gone from the mount, but this sounds like the struts have slack in them. The top strut nut is torqued to 75 ft-lb and everything else is tightened to specs. MM says its my car and not their plates. Any help would be appreciated.

Are the plates new? Did you properly clearance the underside of the shock tower? Retorque all of the mounting bolts and top nut. It wouldn't hurt to pull the top bearing plate and check for a possible bad spherical bearing as well.

I always thought the 2 large spacers are up top?

The plates are new. I don't understand what you mean by "properly clearance the underside of the shock tower". I have had my car to the dealer and they said they couldn't find anything loose. I have also checked and rechecked for anything loose and can't find anything. I have taken the top plate off and checked the bearings. They didn't move at all.

Re: MM CC plates noise

That's my bad, I did the coilover install when I did my plates. When doing coilovers, MM states you need to clearance an area on the frame rail to avoid any interference.

There will always be a little increased noise when removing the stock plates but not any banging.

Can you post any pics of the plates installed?

What struts do you have up front? I put Eibach Sportlines on mine with MM CC plates and the stock struts just refused to dampen anything lol. My struts had ~45k or so on them, but because of age, they were shot. Maybe it's your struts that are noisy..?

Re: MM CC plates noise

I haven't figured out how to post pics yet, but they look just like the instructions. I mean its a pretty straight forward installation. The alignment went just fine.

I am using the stock struts. The car is a very low mile car (13k mi) so I wouldn't think they are worn out.

Re: MM CC plates noise

Noises can be so hard to chase down. A few years ago I kept hearing something that I thought was in the back so I took nearly all of the suspension and the rear interior apart and never found it. Then I took off the rocker panels and nothing. Finally I borrowed a set of "chassis ears" from a friend of mine and found it in 30 min. It was a bad CC plate bearing. I'm not suggesting that your bearings are bad but I am suggesting that a set of "chassis ears" may make quick work of locating your problem.

Re: MM CC plates noise

Those of you that do have CC plates, what kind of exhaust are you running? The reason I ask is I rode around with the windows down today and couldn't really hear anything. I have a stock exhaust.

Re: MM CC plates noise

I had a rattle when I went to the MM CC plates with the stock struts, replaced them and it went away.

they might be low mileage but theyre still pretty old

You were right! I put on some new struts last night and took for a short test drive today. It totally eliminated the noise. I compressed the old and new strut at the same time. Even though the old one did extend, it wasn't near as fast as the new one. Problem solved!

Thanks!

Do I need to get an alignment done if I didn't move the CC plates?
