Re: toasted the motor

any bolt that secures the front cover to the engine block or pan must be removed.

3/8" extension in the rear of the cam will work in a pinch

Re: toasted the motor

So got some more time yesterday. I ended up pulling the cam off and took it to a shop to have them zip it off real quick. The new tensioner is installed and the new chain. Did a lot of reading, and lined up the bottem to 6 o'clock and the exhaust to 11 and 1. All key ways were facing the bottem. Everything seems good when I rotated the motor.

Re: toasted the motor

Bent valves, notched piston on #5, you need to pull the motor.

Probly gonna have broken guides, and a trashed chamber. New head and piston, or a rebuild is in order.

Re: toasted the motor

So to save myself money that I don't have, I will be pulling the head with the engine in the car. If anyone has done this with advise or tips please feel free.

Re: toasted the motor

I think the time you will save by being able to work on the car with the motor out will be well worth the trouble of trying to pull the head and time everything with it still in the car. I don't even think its possible to pull the head off without pulling the motor.

Dropping the K member really isn't that bad. If I was pulling my motor I would take the trans out, then drop it from the bottom with the K member.

Re: toasted the motor

Yeah from what I have read, and talked to a bunch of people it will suck. So I've just decited to sell my soul on a personal loan and have it towed to a shop..... I don't have the time or tools to pull the motor. Being on call 24 hours really sucks and I really need this car up and running.... fml...

Re: toasted the motor

I feel your pain man. Just make sure the shop has a good reputation and make sure they can explain where every dime is going that they charge you. Shops ALOT of the times make up some fantasy charges and you end up paying them.

Edit: Do your research on the shop. Post on here and SVTP on shops around you. Also shops that are not local to you tend to jerk you around and your car will be the last one to be worked on over other cars that are local to them. I've seen it and had it happen to me. Try to stay local that way if something happens you can drive and check it out. Also I would suggest just popping in to see how things are going. It shouldn't be this way, but it is...most shops are shady.

Yeah. I did a lot of research. And one shop was least expensive and had nothing but great reviews. The guy has done lots of hot rods. I took it there. He said it's gonna be a while before it's done.. over a week. Some shops had a 4 day turn around but wanted $1000 plus extra

I'll be stopping in tomorrow or the next day
