Re: Bassani header install progress...

Did the directions say to remove the K-member? That seems odd.

no...but it is easier to do it that way. I did mine without removing the k-member. PAIN...after I changed to a tubular I can see why people do remove the k-member. The clearance is unreal. way easier to tighten all the bolts

Re: Bassani header install progress...

It's funny that this thread has resurfaced. I've got a set of the Bassani mid-length headers waiting in the wings for installation. A few of my friends have suggested that we tackle this ourselves, including dropping the K-Member, but I am somewhat tempted to let a shop with a lift do it.

it really isn' that bad once you pull the k-member...I never removed the front suspension though. i took off both arms at the k-member and moved them to the side. then removed steering rack and slide to the side, undid steering shaft...supported engine at crank and at trans with 2x4's....it was easy then.

I've heard of others doing as you did, just removing the A-Arms. Wasn't that quite a bit of weight being supported only by the struts? Or did you do something to help suspend the whole strut/spindle/rotor/a-arm assembly and reduce the stress on the struts some?

I actually didn't use anything. I tied up the arms and bungeed them up...as far as weight...the cc plates will hold it fine

Re: Bassani header install progress...

I guess I was more worried about the stress on the struts themselves and the possibility of damaging the gas piston. But I'm sure I could figure out a way to secure them out of the way somehow.

Re: Bassani header install progress...

I'm still pretty happy with mine. Definately had to pull the k-member. FYI, it was a royal PITA to double check the torque on the header bolts with the factory k member back in. I did have a few that needed tightening, but no leaks so far.

Re: Bassani header install progress...

Here's something for you guys that have installed them or want to install them and are (or might) experience leaks...
They are solid graphite gaskets, and they claim that they guarantee to stop leaks! I picked up 2 from a guy that was local that had extras. I have only 1 leak on the passenger side, 3rd tube back. I'm very confident these will fix the leak! I'll be putting it on tomorrow afternoon.

The part number you need is "RF3034" It's not listed, but they stock them, I called today, it was about $38-ish.

I'm seriously debating going with the Bassani mids and having a shop install them. Do most people experience leaks with them?

Why is it that it isn't a full gasket? It's a bunch of single rectangular pieces. That doesn't look like a full gasket to me.

Re: Bassani header install progress...

The Bassanis use a different flange than most.
When you get them off you will see.

Re: Bassani header install progress...

do you need to have O2 extensions for these and do the headers go around the steering shaft. i just got a set of the bassani mid length headers and wanted to know of any other things needed. also i did get the remflex gasket so i wont have the leak problem. thanks for the advice. good write up too.

You will need extensions i just put new o2s in with 17 inch wires drivers side was still tight i had to pull them together the passenger fit perfect. Had to pull the front connectors down tight but not that bad. The headers do go around the shaft just remember it when installing or you will have to take them back off. I used copper spray on stock gaskets and have a bit of a leak.

Were these long tubes, mid or shorty headers? Equal length or non shorties?

Got a bad leak from the passenger side header on my car, already had the gaskets replaced a few months ago and now the leak is back. im really mad that i didnt go Kooks longtubes, was worried about clearance and turns out the bassanis hang low as sh*t with the o/r x-pipe

Re: Bassani header install progress...

My driver side was a piece of cake....the passenger side header is refusing to let me slide the collector on with the header pipes on the car...really starting to piss me off Bassani.. I should have kept the Hookers I had before I attempted the on3 turbo ****.

It seems that there is no way for me to get my hands to tighten the nuts down if I leave them all loose to get all the pipes a better chance at getting into the collector.

Took me 3 hours for the drivers side header, passenger side is going onto day 3 and 4-5 hours each of those days still on the passenger side header :/

Oh well I have a brand new IRS brace I can install instead.
