All righty now...my brain finally caught a late flight from Dearborn and the awesome Ford 100 event. If you didn't make it, make sure to make plans for the next 100th, in 2103!
For today; In what years did the Mustang come with a factory installed 'Hurst' shifter? What was different about the shifter and knob used in the last year it was offered from the other years? Super bonus; who were the two registry members who saw the '05 Mustang mule on the road in Dearborn (you might know one of these easily)?

OK, the '70-'73 Mustangs had factory Hurst shifters. The first three years the shifter was a flat bar design with the 'T' type handle. For '73 it was changed to a convetional round style shifter assembly with a round ball shift knob. As far as the '05 mule, Tony A. and yours truly were the lucky dogs to get passed by the '05 mule...complete with pony emblem, '69 style inboard lights, euro-style flush outboard lights (not the little round light like on the concept), honeycomb grille, and really sweet exhaust sound!
For today; Since we all know the engine code for the Mach 1 is 'R' and this is the same for '69 and '70 428 CJ cars, what are the engine codes for the Boss 302, Boss 429, and '65-'67 Hi-Po 289/271hp engine?

OK, FL Mach gets a  for the correct 'K' code answer. Julio gets a questionable 'Honorable Mention' for using the rest of the letters in the alphabet! Bosses were in fact 'G' code cars and 'Z' was the correct for the Boss 429 cars, although they all began life as 'R' code cars. Thanks!

For today; (This one'll be a cake walk for anyone that went on the DAP tour) When the dash was changed from the '65 to '66 Mustang what change was made to the turn signal indicator light on the dash?

I believe that in 65 there was just one turn signal indicator, so that it just indicated that a turn signal was on not which side and in the 66 I believe that it indicates which side turn signal is on kinda like todays cars. Quick question what are the differences between 65 and 66 dash pads?

The '66 dash pad has a pair of fins that curve downward towards the dash flanking the radio, the '65 lacks this feature.

For today; It is generally accepted that all '70 Shelby Mustangs are really unsold '69's that were 'updated' for the '70 model year and then sold as such. What are the three things that were done to change them to '70 Shelbys and differentiate them from their '69 origins?

70 Shelby

VIN changed to include a 0 in place of 9

chin spoiler

black stripes on hood

the ignition key stayed on dash as per a 69. 1970 Mustangs had the new feature of a locking steering column with the ignition switch on the column.

For today; What was unique about the rocker panel stripes on the '65 Shelby GT-350, different from all later Shelby Mustangs? Bonus; What was unique about the first 300(approx.) GT-350's?(Hint:This is also something shared with Boss 429 Mustangs.)

the stripes were painted on instead of decals.

the only thing I can think of is over ride traction bars.

The answers were: Painted rocker stripes (with vinyl lettering), and trunk mounted battery for the first 300 (or so) cars in '65. I'm not sure about the lack of striping that 02Mach1 is reffering to. If it is the LeMans stripes, those were an option on '65, '66 and '67 Shelbys and often dealer installed as well.
Here's a real brain popper; Why were Shelby's painted white with blue stripes ? The real question hidden here is why were American cars in international competition blue/white or white/blue?

That's what I'am talking about Le Mans hood stripes, it was dealer option, because on some Shelbys did not have them I saw at National MCA Shows.

The LeMans stripes were an option, and like so many things now, were only on a small percentage of those cars produced but now you can hardly find a car out there that does not have them. The reasons for the particular colors is that each country was assigned a particular color combination for international competition. The US was blue/white, England was British Racing Green, France was white/red, and so on. Unfortunately this practice has pretty much been discontinued since you can barely tell the color of most competition vehicles since they are covered mostly with sponsor stickers.
