How do you guys change your synthetic oil?
It's about time for an oil change again. I'm using Mobil 1 Synthetic and was wondering how you guys change it.
Do you do that "Add 1 qt every yada yada miles"? OR Do you just drain out all the old completely and put a fresh batch of oil in? |

I was just reading up on stuff about people adding 1 quart of synthetic every X miles, but I don't get the point of that so I figure I'll just change it out completely. I'm not that stupid |

Re: How do you guys change your synthetic oil?
The add a quart every so often thing assumes that your car uses oil. You should always be sure that it has enough oil in it, but when it's time for a change, empty it and go with 6 fresh quarts and a filter.

Re: How do you guys change your synthetic oil?
I go for the out/old-in/new every 3k, but I know a instructor that used to teach auto at school that only does the filter and 1 qt every 3k. Has been doing for many many years with a lot of miles on his atuos. He even said once that he would save used customer oil to add instead of buying.
Later Ed

Re: How do you guys change your synthetic oil?
If you remember when Mobil 1 first came out it was advertised as a 15k-20k engine oil. I have known more than a few old mechanics that believe you change the filter every 3k and add a quart.
I however, run Amsoil and change every 5k with filter...
