I wish I never did this eaton swap

This has been an awful experience. Spent a lot of money, just to have to spend more to replace a bunch of parts, to spend more to get it checked out, to spend more to try to get a tune. So far all I have done is spend a crap load of money I shouldn't have to make my nice running car run like ****.

Re: I wish I never did this eaton swap

All I want to do now is take it in to a good mustang shop and spend a bunch of more money so they make my car decent to drive again, too bad that option isnt available here.

Well the cobra was wanted, just wasn't an option. I'll still take the roots over the centri. I can't even get the belt to stop squeaking. This thing is my daily and I don't have time to keep it down and work on it.

Any video of the squeaking? Keep trying think why and where the squeak would come from.

Re: I wish I never did this eaton swap

If you've tried different brand belts and the squeak always comes back it has to be an alignment issue. Something isn't fully seated or something is bent IMHO. It's a major pain I know but you're too close to give up on it

Re: I wish I never did this eaton swap

I know how you feel man, I'm a poor college kid and I bought my mach and a week later the synchro went out in second, the throw out bearing cracked and then a week later the clutch cable snapped. Also my daily driver, I feel ya. But I hung in there and found a guy with a fresh rebuilt t3650 trying to get money to help out with some family stuff and sold it to me for 250 bucks (much cheaper than synchro job) also sold me a brand new cobra flywheel for 40 bucks, and all together I spent less than 1000 on a new tranny throw out/pilot bearing, clutch, and clutch cable, and a brand new flywheel. Wouldn't have happened if it didn't get bad first, cause in the long run it saved me tons of money! So jus hang in there you'll get it worked out!

Never ever modify your daily driver... pick up a beater to have to run around for parts/drive when the mach is down.

I'm up to 4 cars right now having started that way.

And don't buy a DD you'll want to modify (if that's possible). Been through that with 3 cars and finally learned my lesson.

Re: I wish I never did this eaton swap

Very simple: gotta pay to play. You can mod you DD, but it comes down to two things, can you afford time or money lost. If it's a toy, you can save up $100 over a year if need be and do the work on your own time. If it's your DD you'll probably have to take it to a shop, and drop some coin on it to get it done in a timely manner, unless you have access to a lift, quality tools, and other oddball pieces.

That's 90% of life. Save money and do things yourself on weekends, or save time and pay to have it done right. Unfortunately that second option screws people over sometimes...

Re: I wish I never did this eaton swap

That's possibly the worst feeling you can have when modding your car. I had that feeling when I had my old car painted I was so mad after the whole experience that it completely killed the car for me. I kept the car for another year and a half but completely lost interest.

I hope you don't loose interest in your Mach and you get this all figured out. If not maybe you can find someone near by to help you out for a pack of beer and some pizza, you never know.

Re: I wish I never did this eaton swap

If all that's wrong now is a squeak I dont see why you should lose interest in the whole thing. I had/have the same squeak you have. Done the process of elimination like the guys are telling you about and I found it. My belt was rubbing the inside lip of the lower crank pulley. Didn't find it until I got out there one night with a flash light. Easy fix.

I agree with this. I had three mustangs at one point and it was a huge mistake. The new 5.0 stayed stock for about a month before i started modding it.

I got rid of it before I really started going crazy with it.

It's not gonna be my daily long, I'm moving soon and probably going back to the Midwest. She'll be a summer car there. I just want to be able to have fun with the car now. I was being more melodramatic than anything, just frustrated and impatient.

Re: I wish I never did this eaton swap

Wow, that's horrible to hear. My car is fully modded, but that's cause of the previous owner, but it runs and drives well so all the trial and error is out of the way. Before I do any modding of my own, I plan to have me a decent little car with good gas mileage. I plan on putting together a compound boost set up
but I hope you get everything resolved, and don't give up on your Mach!!! lol

Re: I wish I never did this eaton swap

I daily drive my Mach when there isn't snow on the ground. I know many people who DD cars with insane power and modded ones. I'm putting a procharger on it this summer and still plan to daily it. I also have a 2005 escape to drive when I'm working on my stang. I also work for a dealership and have access to a hoist and of course my tools and speciality ford stuff that makes life a lot easier . Just hang in there, I remember feeling like this after doing the Head/cam/intake swap on my old 5.0L and it wouldn't start, stupid me adjusted the rocker arms too tight and they weren't closing fully

Re: I wish I never did this eaton swap

hang in there man! doing an eaton swap, your changing over more parts than you realize... it takes a bit for the little things to work out.

belt squeek can be caused by crappy belts (even if they are new), dirty pulleys( belt doesnt sit completely on the teeth), bad tensioners, and misaligned pulleys. check the power steering pulley and make sure its back even with the rest of the serp. pulleys.

to test if its the belt, let it idle and pour some water on the belts. do the serp belt first and then the blower belt. although getting water on there is not the ideal way to diagnose, if the sound goes away you know the belts are the issue. idler bearings go bad.... so if the sound stays exactly the same, its your idlers.
