Marriage and fire
About two weeks ago I had a friend come talk to me about his marriage. It was coming to a head and he was confused about what to do next. As he talked to some of our other friends they gave him tons of advice on how to handle the divorce.
We talked for a few hours over lunch and then continued that night over the phone. I didn't get through to him and figured being pushy was not going to work so I was waiting to hear from him. I saw him this evening at an event held at a local school, he was not alone. Forget the religious overtones here and take away the message about not giving up. My last words to my friend weeks ago was to watch the movie "Fireproof", I thought it would get his mind right. He did and after about a week found an excuse to get together with his wife and talked her into watching it. So far, so good. I hope they make it and just hearing about this made me so happy it seemed appropriate to share this story. I've been making every effort to get to bed early recently but this news really has me excited.

Re: Marriage and fire
Really bad/cheesy acting aside, that indeed was a great movie!

Re: Marriage and fire
Thanks, G for the encouraging story.
Let me share with you and everyone else on the Reg that I came very close to divorce myself this past year, but "Fireproof" made a difference in my life and my marriage. I know folks have many reasons for divorce, and I'm not coming from a "holier than thou" or "better than thou" attitude. What I am saying is my marriage was on the brink of disaster because of me - selfish pride. There were so many parallels in the movie to my life, it was more than coincidence. With all that said, please watch the movie with your spouse, and an open heart and mind. |

Re: Marriage and fire
You hit it spot on. This is the most important thing to take away from this thread right here.

Re: Marriage and fire
No matter what the event is - to get a clear picture - I (me) must look at my part in it... Without this simple review, my actions are not ture and become myopic in scope.

Re: Marriage and fire
We just started going to a new church and the first week we went they talked a lot about this movie. So me and the wife watched it this weekend. Have to agree on the cheesy acting, but the story/point behind it is worth it for everyone to watch. Even if your not religous, keep an open mind through it, its still a good watch.

Re: Marriage and fire
If you enjoyed the movie check out the book "The Love Dare" that shows you all the steps. The movie only shows a few. I'm on day 21.

Re: Marriage and fire
OK, reference the acting. Most of the cast are not actors which is why the movie could be made on such a low budget. I personally think they did great considering that fact. Kirk Cameron did a fantastic job.
I couldn't find an easy way to get to the info but if you go to the site below, select about, then select cast bio you will see what I mean. The LT in the movie is a USMC Captain in REAL life. http://www.fireproofthemovie.com/main.php I don't want to push the religious aspects but there is a message contained in the movie. The message about marriage is VERY powerful and should not be missed. GB
