Re: TV's! Plasma or LED?

Do not buy a plasma if the room has alot of light. The glass screen will reflect everything.

When I was at Best Buy, the employee told me to look at a plasma & LCD side by side. I could see the store lights/store window light in the picture. There was minimal to nothing in the LCD picture.

After seeing that, I bought an LCD for living room, Plasma for basement.

if nothing has changed plasmas consume quite a bit more power and put off more heat compared to an lcd

Re: TV's! Plasma or LED?

LED are the best, then LCD, then plasma. Out of all 3 only the plasma is guaranteed to bad, the gases in a plasma screen eventually wear out. On the other hand plasma tvs are much cheaper then the other 2, especially for 45in or bigger

Re: TV's! Plasma or LED?

We have had a Panasonic LED LCD 37" for over a year now. Picture quality is great under all lighting conditions and viewing angles IMO. My only disappointment has been during basketball season (important for anyone living in KY & rooting for UK!). It was like the image could not change fast enough when the players were running up & down the court. Because of this, I'd probably rethink the LED LCD next time around.

Re: TV's! Plasma or LED?

Old Plasmas had a very high failure rate. Panasonic built a new facility just for Plasma. They know stuff other companies don't. Lol. I know lots of people with them...no complaints. I absolutely love mine.

Re: TV's! Plasma or LED?

Plasma is old technology. They are heavy, put off alot of heat, wear out faster, picture isnt as clear, etc etc.

For the money, you can get a bigger picture for less $$ but again, its old technology.

If you re into gaming, you have to be careful so you dont burn the image into the plasma too.

Not saying they are terrible but anyone that thinks plasma is better than LED or LCD, is fooling themselves.

Theres a setting in your setup to change all that. Contact the manufacture and ask them about it. We bought a Samsung and were having this problem, salesman at the store told me what to change.

If not, you bought a TV with a low refresh rate. But if its over 60hz, that probably isnt your problem. Has nothing to do with LED/LCD though.

Plasma offers a high refresh rate but those numbers are like comparing apples and oranges to LED.

I have two plasmas, newer ones that will blow all my other friends large computer screens away. Much better picture IMO.

Re: TV's! Plasma or LED?

I have a large 5x8' picture window and a 42" LCD tv and have never had any issues with seeing the picture. My father has a similar setup but with a plasma and it sucks during the day.

It sucks bc of the lighting conditions. It all depends on what & where the prospective TV will be located.

Yes, Plasma tech is older but it's like comparing a
Fox to an SN95. Fox might be older but old pushrod tech > mod motor. Lol It's all preference. With that being said, I like my Plasma & LCD bc they serve different purposes in my household. I'm sure
I will look into LEDs when I'm in the market again!

I just called Panasonic and they said there was nothing they could suggest. Its a 120 hz TV, so you think it would have a better picture. I'm sending signal from the basement to the TV via coax (DishNetwork), so I wonder if that is the problem?

Re: TV's! Plasma or LED?

my projector tv is 60hz refresh rate which Ive heard of people complaining about but Ive never noticed it and neither has anyone else over the last 5-6 years.

I would try to get a high def box from your dish company and run proper hdmi or component cables (you can get them cheap from monoprice.com, however I would suggest ordering 2 sets and running them at the same time. This way if you ever have an issue you just swap the ends and go back about your business).

This is my opinion, I worked at BB in the home theater department so I know enough to get me by... If I were to get a tv... I would get a Samsung plasma. Preferably the Samsung 8000 series plasma. Plasma is much more realistic picture, amazing refresh rate, and Samsung won't have glare like other plasmas because the screen is clear as glass. My 2 cents...

120 hz and Panasonic, I wouldnt think it was the TV. It could be something in the signal to the TV itself as you said. Does it do it with dvds? Try watching something like Transformers if you havent. If its not choppy, something else is wrong.

Ok, I'll have to try Transformers then (one of my favorites BTW!)

now that I think about, use the remote for the tv, not the cable box remote and explore the menus, some have a sports/action mode for fast moving things that may help as well

Re: TV's! Plasma or LED?

The contrast ratios on the newer LED TVs make for an amazing picture. I have a 55" Samsung LED and the picture is terrific. Sony and Samsung are very comparable in features and quality.

I recently bought a 47" LG 3D LED TV (got it for $999, which included an LG 3D BluRay player and 4 pairs of glasses) and it is every bit as good as my Samsung. I thought the 3D effect would be more of a gimmick, but it really is as good as you would see in a movie theater. Movies and TV offerings are still a bit limited, but awesome to watch. You can even give a slight 3D effect on non- 3D programs. Regular viewing is just like a normal LED TV, but you have the 3D option for when you need it.

I even played a few 3D video games (Crysis and Crysis 2) and it was quite an experience.

The new LEDs are very thin and have very little border around the picture.

Re: TV's! Plasma or LED?

Mits. 60" DLP here, if the light in the room aint to bright its the way to go, Just as good of a picture as LED or LCD at 1080p, plus really cheap to repair if they brake, and bigger sizes for the money.

Re: TV's! Plasma or LED?

Duno if anybody mentioned this but LED TVs are LCD TVs. It's jus the lighting in the back of the tv that are LEDs. Most common is edge lit led TVs. The best is usually the full array led tv with local dimming. But those are usually twice as expensive

Sharp Aquos with Quattron LED.
The 4th color (yellow) really makes the picture pop.
