Driver side valve cover..?
I have done just about everything to get this thing off. All the bolts are off of the hydrabooster, and it pulls out but not all the way and I dont know why.
The studs on the booster itself wont pull out far enough to come out so I can move it aside. Here is a link to a guy that pulled his valve covers off and it looks like he didnt even touch the hydrabooster!! Is there some trick? http://www.mach1registry.org/forums/...ad.php?t=59723 I have searched the registry and can't seem to find the info I need...Any help appreciated. |

Re: Driver side valve cover..?
Sorry pics won't paste but this is the procedure
LH Valve Cover LH Removal All vehicles Remove the air intake scoop. Remove the Hydro-Boost brake booster. Raise and support the vehicle. Manual transmission vehicles Remove the screw and the dust shield. Disengage the clutch release cable from the clutch release fork. Lower the vehicle. Remove the two screws and position the clutch release cable aside. All vehicles Remove the LH ignition coil cover bolts and the cover. Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connectors. Remove the ignition coils. Remove the bolt and position the oil level indicator tube aside. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve hose and the electrical connector. Disconnect the wiring harness anchor from the valve cover. Remove the LH valve cover. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant. Clean and inspect the sealing surfaces and the valve cover gaskets. If necessary, install new gaskets. Make sure the gaskets are correctly seated on the valve cover. Installation All vehicles NOTE: If the valve cover is not secured within four minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with metal surface cleaner. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, or four minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can result in future oil leakage. Apply silicone gasket and sealant to areas shown. Install the LH valve cover and loosely install the bolts. Tighten the LH valve cover bolts in the sequence shown. Connect the wiring harness anchor to the valve cover stud bolt. Connect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve hose and electrical connector. Position the oil level indicator tube and install the bolt. Install the LH ignition coils. Connect the ignition coil electrical connectors. Install the LH ignition coil cover and the bolts. Manual transmission vehicles Install the clutch release cable and install the two screws. Raise and support the vehicle. Connect the clutch release cable to the clutch release fork. Install the dust shield and the screw. Lower the vehicle. All vehicles Install the Hydro-Boost brake booster. Install the air intake scoop.

Re: Driver side valve cover..?
I pull the master cylinder off of the booster, then pull the booster out.
Sounds dumb, but you do have the brake pedal disconnected? There are three nuts by the drivers feet and one nut on the firewall side. If you get a chance, take a picture so we can see what you are hanging up on.

Re: Driver side valve cover..?
I had to loosen my hydro booster on my cobra. It was a pain but, I got the valve cover out without removing it completely. It would probably be best though to completely remove it first. It also makes it easier to disconect the clutch cable but, not a must.

Re: Driver side valve cover..?
did you loosen the plate on the fire wall or loosen the 5 star bolt that go around the booster itself?

Re: Driver side valve cover..?
I removed the nuts from the firewall (three inside the car, one outside) and then separated the m/c from the booster (two nuts)... prior to that, I had removed the power steering hoses from the booster. Once that's out of the way, you can pull the m/c forward, disconnecting it from the booster, and then remove the booster unit. The sucker weighs a ton, so I'm more than likely going to do a manual brake & steering conversion to get rid of the power steering lines, etc.

Re: Driver side valve cover..?
1) The first pic here is where I cant seem to pull it out from the fire wall far enough so the studs come out and is movable. ??
2) In 2nd pic, I am assuming these her are the power steering lines I need to dis-connect? When put them back on do I need to bleed or anything? Last edited by Mach This; 10-13-2008 at 11:31 PM. |

Re: Driver side valve cover..?
So Then according to this picture, is this where I separate (RED) and are these the power steering lines which I disconnect (blue)?? Do you have to bleed the power steering afterwards?

Re: Driver side valve cover..?
You got it man, but in your last picture you still have the reservoir still attached to the booster. You can pull the reservoir straight off and the two lines to the power steering block are two different sizes and pull the line with the clamp off.
That should be it and the booster should come straight out. GL

Re: Driver side valve cover..?
I changed my valve cover gaskets by removing the motor mount bolt and jacking the motor up on the left side. I never touched the hydroboost. I installed a wire with a hook on each end to hold the gaskets in place at each spark plug and pulled the wire out once it was in place.

Re: Driver side valve cover..?
Got it off and found a piece of plastic from the chain guard stuck down at the bottom. Fished it out, inspected everything and didn't see anything else wrong. Really not wanting to pull the pass side and everything off the front of the motor.
