Re: gauges sweep on startup

Just means that battery voltage is falling to the point the module is going to sleep while cranking.. So when you let go of the key and voltage comes back up the module wakes up and does a guage sweep.. Could mean a battery getting weaker, or could be cranking voltage falling lower than normal which happens in colder weather for sure.. but the sweep is a self test it performs when it wakes up.. Should do it when you turn the key on too

Re: gauges sweep on startup

Just like it was mentioned above. It's your battery. Mine kept doing it on my 04 Mach and it eventually pegged up around 5000 rpm and wouldn't come down. The engine was not revved that high but the instrument cluster was. It stayed like that about a day before it reset itself. I ended up replacing the entire instrument cluster and found out that all I needed was a battery!

Most definitly the battery. Take this opportunity to put in an Optima. Best move you will ever make battery wise.

I had 3 that were all pieces of ****, they seem pretty hit or miss. For a while Advance/Discount was replacing the replacements if they died within the warranty period even on swap outs, now that they stopped doing that I wont buy another Optima any time soon.

If you do get an optima check the directions and make sure you have a charger with the proper setting or it will kill the battery

Re: gauges sweep on startup

Get a Motorcraft BXT-850.
You have to mod the battery tray a little but it fits.

Re: gauges sweep on startup

Does the car sit in the garage for most of the time like mine? Mine does the sweep if its been sitting too long. I need a battery tender!
