Sparco EVO II US

After years of breaking parts and not being able to get a seat, I'm finally going to transition to a real race seat. So I purchased a Sparco EVO II US. This is a seat built for us folks in the States that seem to be larger than the rest of the world. They make 1 more seat larger than this called the EVO III.

Anyway, this has a FIA rating(when mounted properly) and doesn't require a back brace. Care should be taken when ordering a seat classified as a 'race' seat as some organizations may make you attach the back of the seat to the roll bar or deny the use of it all together.

I had hoped to use a factory slider as I have removed the power base. But I've been told that using any type of slider(including the Sparco) will cancel the FIA rating. So I had to order a fixed base.
For comparison, the factory seat, minus the base, weighs 36lbs and the Sparco weighs 20.7. But the mounting plates for the Sparco(in steel) weigh 5 and I am not sure what the base weighs. I'm sure it'll be heavy as its made from 3/16" steel. So I'm thinking the weight savings will be minimal.

Here's a comparison. Sitting between the 2, the Mach seat actually gives quite a bit of support when you crank on the harnesses. The Sparco gives a little bit better lateral support in the shoulders. I'm happy about this as it'll (hopefully) stop my head from bashing against the roll cage coming thru turn 6 at Pagoda/Duryea hillclimb. Having your vision blurred a bit going thru a corner at 100 and coming up on a hard brake zone is not optimal.

I'd like to add that there are a bunch of seats that have been removed from the FIA rating:

Scroll to page 21 and it's easier to read the tags for each seat.

1st hillclimb is May 2/3, just above Williamsport, PA. I'll try to report back about the performance of the EVO II.

Did you get the seat in yet? Waiting to see how it looks in the car.

No. But this just came!!

Seat base. If you don't have the seat base, it's not FIA rate and would require a back brace back to the roll bar.

Re: Sparco EVO II US

Seat is in. No pictures yet, sorry. Did the work at my buddy's house and had to bring the car home for my wife to sit in. She can't reach the shifter for 3rd gear now. So, I'll be changing the seat position. What a PITA with the FIA bracket!!!!!

Anti-sub belt was a chore as well. With a fixed seat base, it took 3xs putting the seat in and out to get the length right. BLAH!!

I will have to say that the weight savings is not there. Between the base, seat brackets and seat, it's very close to stock seat weight with the manual track. I took the power seat track out a long time ago. So only reason to go with such a seat is for safety. Weight savings is minimal and won't have any effect for what I do. My guess overall, 5-8lbs savings over factory. It will be a greater savings over the power seat base the Mach originally came with though.

Re: Sparco EVO II US

Looks like you have limited adjustment with the bracket. What is it about 2"?

Re: Sparco EVO II US

Almost finished. Need to do 1 more adjustment but this is close enough.

Re: Sparco EVO II US

The seat is wide at the shoulders. So it hits the door a little.

We'll be trying it out this Sunday. I'll miss the Mach seat. It really is supportive.
