OPTIMA battery tray help needed!

OK, I'm attempting to install my new battery tray and there are, of course, no holes available in the sheet metal to attach the thing to. Did everybody who's done something similar have to drill out holes? Is it a safe location to drill? How are you then attaching the tray since there's nothing threaded to screw into? HELP!

Re: OPTIMA battery tray help needed!

I appreciate that; in fact, you're the reason I bought one to begin with. What I need to know, though is exactly HOW you attached the tray to the sheet metal. I'm mechanically challenged and it doesn't look to me like the holes in the corners of the trays line up to anything but solid sheet metal. How did u attach the thing to the car? I updated the photos to include the bottom of the tray location, the side mounting holes for the factory hold-fown, and the little what'sit that was attached tothe factory hold-down. What'd you do with that?

Re: OPTIMA battery tray help needed!

Well, I just happen to have the battery out now. It appears I used 2 bolts and only had to drill one hole. There is a flat washer, lock washer, and nut on the bottom of the bolts. I think the rear one was in a tight spot.

Re: OPTIMA battery tray help needed!

Here's the finished product. At first, I was worried about its stability, but today it seems more secure than I had originally thought. Thanks again!

I agree for a racer but I don't worry about weight transfer or distribution when I'm at a car show or cruise in. We may move the battery of our GT to the trunk to make room for the oil pump system for the TT's and for those other reasons.
