Has anybody changed water pump or alternator?

My car has about 125,000 mile and I track the crap out of it. I'm thinking about changing the WP and Alt as preventative maintenance. Weep hole on WP is dry and Alt tests fine. Any thoughts, what kind of experience do you guys have with these 2 components?

Re: Has anybody changed water pump or alternator?

130,000 miles and no issues with either one. If you would like to get rid of some money, please shoot me a PM and I will give you my address!!
Just a little humor, hell if I changed stuff before it went bad, I would have a new Mach x2, don't sweat it, take a female out to a nice dinner instead

Re: Has anybody changed water pump or alternator?

My alternator was on its way out at about 80k miles, and I stretched it out to 100k before it started causing a bunch of other problems due to low voltage. Unless you are seeing under 13volts, I would leave the alternator alone. The mechanical water pumps don't really go out.

Re: Has anybody changed water pump or alternator?

I had to replace mine at about 80k miles, but my wife put the first 50k miles on it, so my results are not typical.

Poor car had the following before I took it way from her:
1. All four wheels severely curb Rashed, only when they were on the front of the car.
2. She literally drove over a parking stop, the concrete stops in parking lots. She was parked, and instead of putting it in reverse, she forgot it was there and just drove over it.
3. At 7k miles, 12k worth of damage to the front, pulled out in front of van. But, she did not get a scratch.
4. At 80k miles, rear ended a car, all her fault. Another 12k.
5. Somewhere in-between, icy conditions slid at a strange angle into the curb with the front wheel.
6. Took out a mailbox, but somehow it buffed out, but again, another front alignment issue as it went in the ditch.

So, I obviously took the car away from her after the last wreck and never gave it back. Funny enough, she can really drive well at the track she just has an attention problem on the streets. lol

Moral of the story, not all ball joints are treated the same, and sometimes they need to be replace much earlier than the designed 250k mark. But, I would check them before replacing them as I agree that in most cases they will be fine.

Re: Has anybody changed water pump or alternator?

Water pump on the old 99 cobra took a dump at 83k miles. The alternator was still good at 142k when my ex traded it.

Cool Re: Has anybody changed water pump or alternator?

You might want to go with an electric water pump.

Re: Has anybody changed water pump or alternator?

if you arent having issues with them Id leave them alone personally.

Im not looking for every last single HP so Im not interested in an electric water pump, just more crap to go wrong IMHO
