Gains for 99/01 Cobra Upper Intake Manifold? - 2003-04 Mach 1 Registry Owners Club

I was talking to a mechanic buddy of mine and he mentioned that if I was to swap out only my upper Mach 1 manifold for the manifold that was in the cobra in 99-01 I would free up some power.

Can anyone confirm this? I couldn't find any threads on it and from the look of it the two upper manifolds look nearly identical.

I probably sound like I know nothing about this motor, and well, that's because I don't. So help a ford newbie out!

I bought a totaled Mach 1 in order to use the drivetrain for a project of mine. I was wondering how to get some more naturally aspirated power out of the motor besides a tune and the headers with straight-through side-pipes.

Since he seems to be incorrect, what are your suggestions?

The Cobra upper has the Cobra on it. That is worth an easy 25-hp! The Mach1 is bland.

I'm looking for increased power/torque without a major loss in drivability. The car (a '65 cobra replica) will be mainly used on the street and for autocrosses, but she might get some road course time under her belt.

jlt intake
90mm Lightning MAF housing
Roy's ported and tig-welded back together lower intake (can also do a short-runner for higher rpm power but you will give up lower rpm power for this)
98 cobra intake cams
Cobra R power steering and water pump pulleys
Kooks/SLP longtubes and offroad X pipe
SLP or Magnaflow catback.
Dyno tune once mods are done

that's just one of MANY ways to do a n/a build. If you've got alot of money, there's even better stuff out there like FR500 intakes and cams, cnc'd heads etc.

Do a bunch of reading on this site. A BUNCH.

that is an excellent intake manifold.. dont change it until the block and heads are done.. or add boost

hes an idiot.. actually im pretty sure that the mach intakes are better than the 99/01 cobra manifolds.. but most of the power increase came from the heads

Im with 311-420......You could also install an intake spacer. Great power gains for such a cheap part
