Very ! I was a sonar tech on one of the old "boomers", SSBN 630 (John C. Calhoun) back in 1989-1993...(one of those live in Charleston SC/bus away to Kings Bay, Ga boats). I went to shore duty in Charleston for 3 years then went to school in Kings Bay and spent the remaining 3 years on SSBN 742 (USS Wyoming) out of Kings Bay. Left the Navy in 2000.

Nice, home office was in Charleston and we flew to Holy Loch, I qualified BQR-21 and basic sonar operator (was bored lol, along with FTTW, TM watch, Helmsman/Planesman and Fathometer watch-also ran Deck division, you can tell how bored I was lol ), I did first shore duty as an A school instructor in Dam Neck (86-89), nice to meet another Bubblehead How do you wind up in KS? (I am from Brooklyn, NY originally and just stayed in GA when I got out).

Well dang, I was there then, I was just telling my GF we used to go to Shifting Sands to get drunk..THEN go out to town lol!!! I used to catch blues off that beach as well. I lived in Portsmouth and used to drive everyday...great times, at least back then.

Re: HOW MANY ARE MILITARY MEMBERS on this site

We'd take an empty seabag to the commissary, fill it with ice, then jam about 2 cases of beer into the bag and someone would lug it down to the beach. Then bury it in the sand and let the fun begin. I can't remember who thought of it, but it was a great idea.

Yep, we had a few MT's augmenting our sonar watch sections on my boats also. The weapons dept was one big happy family. Don't even want to remember all those **** nuclear weapons security guard watches I had to stand when loading missiles (in the Kings Bay, Ga heat of summer) and below decks. I am originally from Kansas City, Mo, that's how I ended up back here after the Navy.

OH the good times, AD army 2004-2011 first 89B and then switched to 19D after I realized I was going to make a career out of it, two deployments to Iraq and got medical retirement after getting injured on last deployment.

Was nice reading through the threads.
