Re: New Project "R" thread

It is NOT, I repeat NOT a Boss 290 engine.
A Boss 290 engine has 10.5:1 compression,
and 12mm lift cams.
This one is close to a Boss 260.
Aussie Boss motors also have a front sump oil pan/pickup.
It has the incorrect valley water tube, no coolant crossover, etc.
The list goes on.
I started a thread a bit ago warning members of this fact.
Is is also extremely expensive for what you get.
They are basically charging 4000 for an upper intake that will not fit
anything in the US.

Re: New Project "R" thread

I just read this whole thread and I was surprised to see that it wasn't over in the end. Is the kit to convert the 4.6 to 5.4 basically just the intake? And is this intake just for N/A applications?

It takes a bit more than the correct intake to make this fit,
although the upper and lower intakes are imported from Australia.
They are both factory parts, and I have to mod the upper.
The kit is very reasonable for what you get.
It will fit 96-04 Mustangs, but the easiest is the 99-01 Cobra,
or 03-04 Mach 1.
GT's will work too.
The kit is to assist you with the installation of the 5.4 32V
Navi based engine into the car.
The car runs and drives,
and I am still going to install a Boss330 built motor into it,
and get it painted Torch Red.
It will then become my DD, as my Mach 1 is for sale.

Re: New Project "R" thread

Just received a mail order tune for "R" from VMP tuning.
I have to change from 24 to 39# injectors and load it.
Maybe Justin found some more power.
I know Wild Bill highly recommended him.
I'll update when I have it sorted out.

The car will not see a dyno until the motor from Al is installed,
and the car is painted.
Unfortunately, none of that will happen until the Mach 1 is sold.
VMP will be doing the dyno tune.

Re: New Project "R" thread

I changed the injectors to 39# (from the stock 24) and loaded
the mail order VMP tune and all I can say is:
Wow.
Huge difference in smoothness.
I gave Justin all the specs on the car and a PCM code
and let him work his magic.
Very impressive indeed.
It has a bit more power, but the way it comes on is a LOT smoother,
yet more brutal at the same time. (which is great)
The idle is smoother than it was,
it fired right up with no issues.
Thanks Justin, I highly recommend your services. :ORANGE:
Also a thanks to Wild Bill for steering me that way!

I took some new pics, even though it looks pretty much the same as it did.
Just has bigger tires on it, and the car is aligned now.

I am amazed, but this thread has 50,000 hits.
I am doing my best to complete the car,

Thanks for the interest and support!

That's a good analogy and quite fitting for this project. After hearing him describe the feeling from the torque this car produces, I've been dying to go for a ride.

Re: New Project "R" thread

Took the car to a local car show today.
Quite a few people were startled, from the engine,
to the "strange paint", to wondering wtf the engine was.
Car runs very well with the VMP tune in it, very smooth and torquey.
Also ran into a local guy doing a Mach 1 engine swap,
wanting some advice.
Him and hid Dad were there, and strangely, they were from the Chicago area,
where I grew up, and we have a few acquaintances in common.
Small world.
Seems the son has been an auto painter for quite some time
at a local body shop....................
Yes, the subject DID come up.

Re: New Project "R" thread

I couldn't just paint it TR. I'd have to get a flame job. One of the very subtle ghost flame jobs. Not one that pops out at you, mind you. Just a thought for such a unique ride. Either or, she'll be badass.

I want it to look factory from its outward appearance,
as if Ford could have done it had they chosen to.
It's in my DNA.

A man after my own heart. The car has turned out really well. Me personally, I love blue cars and would probably paint it the color of the rear spoiler, I love that color.

Sorry, I am most definitely hetero............................
I have seen Cobras that blue color (forgot its proper name),
but even Azure Blue would look cool on it.
It's gonna be Torch Red though.
The car drives so nice, I love how the car feels on the road.

I think it's Sonic Blue. I had a Bullitt that was True Blue and I like that one as well.

Re: New Project "R" thread

Yeah, Sonic Blue.
I have seen some and it does look pretty cool.
Cobra "R"'s were Performance Red,
but that is a bit too Orange-ish for me.
A car like this should be screaming "RED".
With any luck, Ill get mine done before Wild Bill's car is done.

I agree with the too orange part and I also agree that if you are going red a Torch Red or a nice Porsche Guards Red is the only way to go.
