No S/C with the new motor?

Do you DD the car any? I'm considering 4.56's but will most likely go 4.30's. Keep us updated!!

Nope. Getting the s/c was a combination of having money in my pocket and a brain cramp at the same time. I am getting enough out of selling the s/c to cover the Aviator swap so it wasn't all bad.

It is more of a weekend car. The 4:56's will be going in over the winter with a upgraded 99 IRS and a T56.

I'm running 4:30's in my 2003 Mach1 dd and love em. On the highway I run between 70 and 80 mph. I would stick with the 4:30 vrs the 4:56 for a dd. They are great for around town and not to bad on the highway.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

well i will have some relevence to this topic in a few weeks. Everyone debating on 4.10s or 4.30s i will have driving impression results and track results. Best before with 4.10s was a 12.55@111 with a 1.80 60' i know the weather is gonna play a factor but that ET was achieved on an unseasonably cold eveining (mid 50s at best) so i sould have some decent comparison #s. Im hoping for a 12.39 on the 4.30s and consistant 12.40s i was consistant 12.60s before but i think these will help a lot with my 2.87 1st in the TKO. Will update in a seperate thread when have results.

Haha! I only get 160 miles out of a tank but its mostly city/around town driving.

I almost always get 210 miles on a tank when the "Low Fuel" light comes on. My miles are about 99% city but I'm auto so that doesn't help matters either, but what ever the extra gas costs, this is one of the 3 mods that I wish I did the day I bought my Mach. The difference is VERY substantial! YAHOOOO! Now I wish I went with 4.30's. Hummmm, they can always be changed again plus, Christmas is just around the corner. The only thing is that I think the 4.10's would be better with a Procharger and that's on my short list too so I guess only time will tell as to just how good I've been this year. 4.30's or a Procharger? I don't see a down side either way. Life is good.

I'm probably just slow or.... well I guess just slow, but I can't find FR 4.30's for sale online (for a descent price). Anyone have/know a place I can get some?

BTW, I prefer new over used.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

Lots of great information here, however, one thing seems to be constantly missing, which is if you're running an auto transmission or a manual? Really important bit of information, but 70% of the people here don't mention that, so it's really hard to gauge what and why people like something when the simple fact of what tranny there are running is missing. I digress.

I have automatic Mach 1, it's a Sunday driver only, I plan on doing both 1/4 mile and some open track days (Laguna Seca to be exact). I've done 2 tracks days at Thunder Hill and with stock gears the car did great. I don't think autos are great for open tracks, but the Mach did really well anyway.

I'm also going to run 18" tires with 285/35/18 (which I believe are taller than stock tires).

I would greatly appreciate any information.

Michael

What gears can I get away for my situation, 4:10's ro 4:30's

^^^ +1 on that. I wont be road racing only drag racing but with an otherwise stock car besides exhaust. Automatic on the strip should post some good numbers besides the car is not a daily driver.
I think 4.30s...

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

How fast can I go in 3rd in my Auto Mach 1 with 4.10's?

I don't want to be limited to under 130mph on the back straight, if so, I'll go down to 390's.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

So my buddy just swapped his 3.55 for a set of 4.10s in his 08 GT and now he has someone that wants to trade his 3.55s for a used set of 4.30s. He said you can have them if you want...
So now that I have a set of 4.30s for the Mach, what do you recommend for installation. Dealer, do it myself, I'm a heavey equipment mechanic for Cat and they have great manuals so you can't f any thing up there, but does anyone have a good set of instructions or a how to for the Ford 8.8 rear set up?

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

Think I'll take a stab at this, now that the gear swap in my Mach is complete. Before I bought this car, I had a mid 12's Pace Car. The car had 3.73's in it, and at an earlier, time 4.10's. Late last fall, I took the Mach to the track, to base line it. I ran a best of 13.97, granny shifting the stick, on M/T drag radials on 30 psi. I was running through the traps just as I shifted out of 3rd gear. That's all she had. It ran consistent high 13's to very low 14's.

Doing the math, I figured 4.30's would do the trick. However, a Vortech SQ2 is going on this ting very shortly. I asked around, and I was told 4.30's was too much for the car if I was going the blower route. So after careful consideration on some solid advice, I had a set of 4.10's installed in the car.

My overall impression is 4.10's to a 32V are the equivalent of 3.73's to (built) Fox body 5.0. Just enough to give it some spirit, but not enough to have some real fun. If the Vortech was not going on this car, I would have selected the 4.30's. I think the car is fine, but it just seems to need that extra bit. 4.30's and a set of moderate cams, and this car would be a lot of fun. However, I've always like superchargers, and I've chosen that route.

These cars are heavy, and they need a gear to get them up into the HP band. In this ongoing battle of the gears, I would recommend 4.30s for N.A. cars. I'll let you know how it goes once the SQ2 goes on it in week or so - something I'll be tackling myself, save for the new fuel pump install and a subsequent tune.

I still can't decide if 4.56's will be ok for a dd. I don't go over 70 on my daily drive to work. What do y'all think? I have the gears already.

Mine are okay for daily driving. 4.56 is a track gear. If you want the best possible 1/4 performance, then 4.56 is the way to go on a bolt on car.

If you just street drive it, and roll race it, then I wouldn't do anything more than a 4.10, or just keep the stock gears.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

I want an all around gear, great for the track and a weekend stroll. I don't really roll or street race, def don't wind it out past 120. Just need something to get through the traps in 4th at 115-120 as I plan on cams and full bolt ons.

Heated up the 275/50/15 Nitto DRs with a good 2nd gear roll on the street. Punched it at a good jogging speed in 1st gear and hit 2nd hard with a slight wheel hop 3 times. Bish rolls out for sure. Anyone want a speedo video?

They will get you down the track if you trap 120mph. Just raise the rev limiter. It won't hurt the motor to rev it to 7,200 or so.

4.30's will go to 124 mph in 4th at 7000 rpm which is a 1:1 ratio, same as the auto in third.

WNTAMACH1 I think you hold the record for the longest time spent before deciding to install a set of gears. You've been debating those 4.56 all year!

Very true, just get a good high revving cam.
