Power Window acting up
Hi
I was hoping to get some advice while I present some observations with my Power Window issue: 2003 Mach 1 Drivers side power window is stuck in the closed position. It was intermittent for a few years and now fully stuck, closed. When pressing the drivers side power window button, i can hear a click from within the door. There is no window movement or motor sound/grinding. When pressing the drivers side power window button that controls the passenger window, works perfectly. Never was an issue. Since i hear a click from within the door, i believe this eliminates the power window switch as it is sending power to the regulator. Beyond this I am confused. Any advice? Thanks! |

Sounds like the window motor finally died completely to me.

Your bushings inside the motor have flattened and are stuck. Take the motor out, open it up, remove the bushings, clean, grease up and when installing them flip the bushings. To prevent this from happening in the future, if you keep your car in the garage, roll up the window and just slightly tap the window button so pressure is not put on those bushings with the window in the full up position.
Did this to mine in 2009 and have never had a problem since. Also had this same issue in my daughters 04 GT and it still works like a champ. Or, buy a new motor. Sadly, you cannot buy that bushing anywhere, but that is the part they replace when they rebuild them. good luck

Interesting. Mine has done that a few times over the years and it seemed to be heat related. Car sitting in the sun in the summer for example. Take it home and put it in the garage or park the car where it could cool a little and it will start working again.

Interesting, with the temperature dropping at night, the power window works.
Why would the hot weather cause my power window to stop working? Does it help confirm it is the motor? Thanks everyone! |

I've got the door panel off, removed the 3 bolts on the motor, 2 nuts on the rivets, couldn't remove the motor though.
I was trying to follow what the guy in this video did https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dNcCN27p3Q Based on the comments, others seem to be able move it out easily. I started taking off more nuts and was able to slide the motor back, the window fell so I'll look into the process for removing the whole assembly tomorrow. I did not have any rivets that needed to be removed; just removed the three bolts, you need to tap the window button down to help relieve the pressure that has the motor wedged in.

I've got the whole assembly out, The spring was holding the motor in tight, and through some playing the motor shot out a little nervously and the assembly changed direction/compressed..
I cleaned and greased all the components, switched it around like you said, everything looks good. Put the motor back together, but not sure about lining up the gears on the assembly with the gears on the motor. Anyone have this in the service manual? I placed it in a vise making it easier, but again, not sure which knotch to place the motor gear on.. Last edited by crazyone64; 05-05-2018 at 08:31 PM. |

With those gears misaligned, its impossible to fit the assembly matching the bolt holes.
I think my only option is to buy a new assembly with motor, line mine up identically to the new one and try again, then return the new one. Seems easier than taking out the passenger side and potentially running into issues there, unless someone has a better idea? |

trying to understand; you should be able to put the window in the up position, then put the motor in, you may have to connect the power to the motor and rotate the gear with the button, it has some torque to it so hold it tight. If you have pictures of your issue that may help. I was able to wiggle mine in with ease, I've done at least 4 of these and even one on the convertible rear windows.

That may have been my issue. I was attaching the motor to the assembly because those arms were pretty tough to move with the spring tension.. then installing the piece as one. So I wasn't sure which of those grooves/notches on the regulator assembly to make contact with the motor gear as you can pick one of like 30 options, changing the degree of the arms.. And the misalignment.
Tomorrow I'll disconnect the motor, install the regulator assembly, raise the window all the way, then install the motor. Hopefully those are the correct steps and everything lines up. I imagine the spring will make this difficult to get the arms where I want. If I missed anything please let me know. Thanks! Last edited by crazyone64; 05-05-2018 at 11:04 PM. |

I raised the window, reattached the assembly, lined up all holes, tightened bolts. Haven't installed the motor yet, because manually moving the window, will only go down about 4-5 inches. It's hitting something - it sounds like the bumper on the top right track.
When i remove the bar in picture 1, the window moves down no problem. All remaining nuts and screws are in place. From what i can see, it is lined up in picture 2 with the window up, but as i move the window down 4-5 inches, in picture 3, it moves out of the tracks position, and with that bar in place, i think it's affecting the top right arm? sorry bud, hopefully someone jumps in here; I have never messed with anything but those 3 bolts on the motor, never touched any other rivet or bolts. I was trying to get to you before you messed with all of that other jazz...

I've got a really interesting update..
I reinstalled the assembly this time with the window a bit down instead of fully up. I found exactly what is hitting. Behind the speaker, there is a vertical track the window goes up and down on shown in picture 1. I fit my camera in there as shown in Picture 2 and 3, and I can see a white piece that is hitting the metal as i raise the window. This is the issue. In picture 2, you can see it has scrape marks, so it must go under the metal, but i can't budge it in.. when i have the window fully up, and install the assembly, it hits on the top part, but is hidden from view. Same sound. When i take out the assembly, i have more wiggle room with the glass and can slide the window up and down. Anyone familiar with this or where i can get more specific advice on this? That white clip fell out of the window rail track.
Solution: Remove the nut on the Window Rail, lower the window a bit, put the clip back in the rail, re-assemble everything. Hope this helps someone in the future. It was a royal pain. |
