1986 Thunderbird
I'm considering selling my '86 T-bird with a 3.8 auto. Now that we have added the Mach1 to the stable (along with my 90 LX) the Bird has been pushed down the list.
I originally bought it to swap in a V8 because the car is really clean and it's a bit different from every other Fox on the road around here. However, time and finances have been re-appropriated to other areas so I've just been using it as a daily driver. It has 108,000 miles on it with power locks, windows, and driver's seat. The air conditioning works awesome and has a R12 in it, not R134 so it's not leaking out. Everything else works on it except for the left door doesn't lock from the outside and the exhaust is leaking. Oh, and a small crack in the windshield that I'm going to see about having repaired. New parts include: Monroe Struts Motorcraft shocks Right door lock actuator coolant temp sensor Upper & lower radiator hoses Ground cable (batt. to body) Installed a Flex-A-lite Black Magic electric fan added an aux. trans cooler I also have the front cross member, hydroboost and suspension from a 98 GT for a mod motor. I'm asking $2400 with the 14" steel wheels and wheel covers. I'll include the 10 holes and GT parts depending on the deal. The car is located in Deforest, WI just outside Madison. |

Re: 1986 Thunderbird
Good luck, I have always loved those cars. When I was in high school I had the Turbo Coupe. It was a blast and economical. I would be in the market if I could afford another project; I would be a new Ecoboost 2.3 in that thing.

Re: 1986 Thunderbird
I don't think I need another project. Here is my thunderbird / cougar list of ownership over the years:
84 Turbo Coupe 85 XR7 Cougar 87 Thunderbird 93 XR7 Cougar 97 XR7 Cougar The 84 was my favorite, small and light. The 87 was my least favorite; based on the 84 platform but they added so much body bloat that it just seemed huge but inside was the same as my 85 cougar. The 93-97 ones drove great but were kind of a grandma car. Then I made the switch to the Mach.

Re: 1986 Thunderbird
i love these cars - they remind me of Bill Elliot setting the nascar speed record at Talladega before restrictor plates ruined it.
the turbo coupe is one of my all time favorites. |

Re: 1986 Thunderbird
Yup, those were good times. Mine did not end well; rolled it in high school but I did spank a few z28s before I did. I mean, we were racing 175-200HP high performance cars at the time. lol I do miss the bird, and they are really hard to find, the OP has a great starting platform and if I was in the market for a project I would buy it quick. Good TBirds are really hard to find these days.

Re: 1986 Thunderbird
Reminds me of a small part of my childhood. My grandmother had a white one with the 5.0l. Of course I was too young to know or care about it at the time. It had the porno red interior too.
Clean car OP. Good luck with the sale.
