Re: Die -cast cars

This past Saturday I had the chance to meet (again) Ford GT designer Camillo Pardo. He was kind enough to sign a number of GT items I had brought with me. He also brought a painting he had done of a '69 GT500 that was commissioned by a friend of mine of my friends Shelby. Camillo actually drove down from Michigan to Louisiana in his blue Ford GT. He raced it at NPR for a show being shot there for Speed.

Re: Die -cast cars

Thanks, Bill. Camillo is considering going to the Carlisle show, as there is a new Ford GT book coming out that he may be there signing. Also, I believe Donald Farr will be either signing or taking pre-orders for signed copies of the new Boss 302 book.

Re: Die -cast cars

He is very willing to sign. In addition to the diecast, he also signed a pair of 'hero' cards, press kit, the Ford GT book, and a copy of the photo of myself and him on the Ford GT display stand at SEMA in 2004 (it is in out photo gallery here).

Donald's book not due out till July and I had gotten him to sign my other original one several years ago. I told him I'd get him to sign my new one (not bought yet) at Carlisle in 2012 (LOL).

He jokenly told me he had seen the original book (really pamplet) go for several hundred dollars on e-Bay and told him to go ahead and personalize his signature in mine to lower the price.

As I said before, too bad you can't be there, I'd buy your breakfast at the Homewood Suites every morning and beer or soda at the BBQ.

I hope that's the give away car this year on Sunday. My wife had one of those when we first got married 30 plus years ago. It would be cool if I won that car and she could drive it the 12 hour drive back home .....................................

NOT, I'm hoping to have a 31st Anniversary too.

Her's looked like this only with red trim along the side and back.

I am not going to lie, had a 1971 Pinto. Bought it when it was 6 years old and sold it with almost 170000 miles on it. It was a fun car, good on gas and I actually miss that car.

Re: Die -cast cars

You seem to have forgotten that the 1971 Pinto was the foundation of the "modern" Mustang up through 2004. Then a Lincoln was the base for the 2005 and up Mustang.

Not even counting how hard it is to find LTD's to run into them.

Umm...Bill...errrr, that's not exactly correct. The (in)famous Mustang II, based on the Pinto underpinnings was made from '74 to '78. The Fox chassis (Fairmont/Zephyr/LTD/Futura/Capri/T-Bird/Cougar) became the new basis for the Mustang in '79, with modifications to the upgraded Fox 4 level spec in '94 until the ''05 car hit in '05.
PS....Dave as well as John clor are both 'II' nuts...er, enthusiasts....

No, the #13 car is, though. The #15 is an Exoto 1/18 'Dan Gurney for President' car with the bumper sticker on the rear quarter. It's the most expensive diecast I'd ever bought to that time and the detail is spectacular.

I was driving to downtown Detroit yesterday and saw this Ford GT. From remembering reading this post I knew this guy had something to do with the design. The guy driving it seemed kinda young, maybe in his 30's 40's at best.

He was driving it pretty slow and got off at an exit to a sketchy part of town. I LOVE Detroit and never feel unsafe, but I am not sure I would be driving this car down there! lol

EDIT: I did a quick google search of Camilo Pardo, and yup that was him driving it. Im sure he is a good dude, but he looked kinda like a D-Bag with driving gloves and his shirt unbuttoned way past his chest!
