muffler choice?

I am just going to start with mufflers on '04 Mach. Does anyone have any they really like or really hate? I don't want something too loud. Does anyone have Bassani? I've heard good things about them.

Here is a good website with a hundred different exhaust sounds and lots of info. if you have not seen it yet.

Incidentally, my ford dealer was fine with me installing a muffler (or cat-back), but said that the exhaust and a K&N filter were the only mods. allowed.

Where is the best place to shop for the Magnaflow system?

Can the car be driven if you take your aftermarket catback off and just leave on the factory H-pipe. How would it sound and drive then?

Ofcourse you can. It would sound loud. Wouldnt hurt a thing since all the sensors are all plugged in the mid pipe. The engine would run as normal if it were equipt with the factory mufflers. Just louder. It probably wont have any disticntive tone since mufflers set that senerio.

Re: Exhaust Review by mach1review

I am going for more sound and tone, any performance I gain is icing on the cake. I am starting with a MRT catted h-pipe, If I am not satisfied I will start looking at the options for cat-backs to connect to the MRT catted h-pipe. My MRT catted h-pipe should be here tommorrow, May 9th.

Re: Exhaust Review by mach1review

I just posted something about exhaust in a thread like 10 minutes ago but after reading this I have more questions now. I am a little worried to put aftermarket exhaust on because of what people have been saying about the A/F and having to get a tuner. I plan on getting CAI and putting on an o/r h pipe and either a flowmaster or slp loudmouth catback. If I do not get a tuner, will it mess up the car? I just want a little more hp with a better sound, and now I have to spend more money on a tuner? Do you think this setup would sound nice: stock exhaust manifold, o/r h, with the slp loudmouth?

You can see what I have done in my signature, the car runs great and my fuel economy hasn't changed, except when I haul a$$ everywhere. I have not had my car tuned. But I agree with all the other posts, if you change stuff on the intake then you would probably would need to have it tuned. There are some guys out there that know this stuff way better than me, I'm sure they will chime in......

I have the slp loudmouth catbacks on my 03 and I am extremely happy with the performance and the sound. It has made the car a real headturner.

Re: Exhaust Review by mach1review

These Machs seem to be a bit finicky when it comes to mods, huh? Gone are the Fox body days of just throwin' on an exhaust system, screw any unnecessary tuning and enjoy an immediate hp/tq gain. Anyhow, my favorite sounding exhaust is the MAC catback. Does anyone have any info on that? Will there be a loss of hp/tq downlow if I install a MAC catLESS prochamber and MAC catback? Will that cause my motor to lean out? From anyone who knows, what are your thoughts on this setup? Also, does this car prefer 2 1/2" exhaust diameter or more?

Not from personal experience, but I've been researching the Pro-Chamber the past couple days and there is a little low end loss but you get it back at higher rpms. Ideally at near stock hp levels I'd say a mandrel bent 2 1/4" (not available to my knowledge) to 2 1/2". Over 450hp they say you can get gains from 3" diameter.

Re: Exhaust Review by mach1review

JLT CAI is great for the Mustang, Only problemsand JLT tells you when you purchase it that your vehicle will run leaner. A 4" CAI is alot of air! u can correct the lean burn is you have a tuner Sniper, Diablo, SCT, ect. Also a AFR monitor would be good to have lke the NGX AFX, Or Innovatives. U can tell how much to richin the car up. standard AFR is 14.9 The leaner you get the more fuel economy less power. I am tuning my Mach around 11.1 to 12.2 but i am blown.

Re: Exhaust Review by mach1review

I'm using 2 chamber flowmasters and really happy with the sound and power. My X pipe will be installed next weekend.

One other thing I want to bring up... With horsepower gains you generally lose low end power. So just put in a 4.30 gear and call it a day

Re: Exhaust Review by mach1review

For flowmasters, the o/f h-pipe sounds better.

For Magnaflow catback, the UPR o/r x pipe combo sounds good and is all around balance. Inside the car, not quiet - yet you can still hold a conversation without yelling. Outside the car, it sounds tough...

I like the raspy sound with the flows. WHen it comes to exhaust it is all personal preference.
