Question Slicks with stock axles! Am I crazy?

Ok, I picked up a set of 15x8 Prostars with 26x10.5 MT ET Streets. Would I be retarded to try and launch on these with my stock axles? I just want to try and get a 12.5 out of my car as it is and don't really want to drop $1700 on building my rearend right now. I figure with the soft sidewall of the slicks I might be fine.

Mods and current best 1/4 time are in my sig and was with a 315/35/17 MT DR.

Have someone film it so when it snaps and you go sideways near the wall the world can see it on youtube and ask what was that guy thinking.

I've got a buddy who's been playing with this kind of fire for while now. I keep telling him it's going to be his last pass and he keeps proving me wrong. Bastage....

Re: Slicks with stock axles! Am I crazy?

DONT DO IT

Leave the slicks off the car and put a set of upper and lower Rear Control arms - adjust the pinion angle...

that would get you 2 tenths from the 60ft...

I dont think ill drop 2 tenths off of my 1.69 60' i pulled on the DRs by doing control arms

I had probably 45 passes on the 315 MT DRs with out braking lol, last 15 of them were launching at 5k RPMs and 1.7x 60's

What do you guys mean by "baby it out of the hole"? Im trying to improve on my 12.72 so I was hoping I could launch harder since there a soft side wall compared to the DRs I ran on before.

I wont be going with out having AAA first.

What kinda ride should i expect at the track with the slicks? I drove with them on the highway last week and they are VERY unsteady at high speeds, I took them off the next day cause they scared the poop out of me

Yeah suuuuuure.
READ again.... put your glasses on....

I said LEAVE the SLICKS off....in other words run the 315 35 17's

he got 1.7 60 ft....Slicks will snap that axle....street tires will spin...as I am sure you know....

He needs to stiffen the flexing parts (crappy stock control arms)....then the suspension can work....

Well like the other guy said, my aluminum flywheel?

Can I improve my times by "babying it out of the hole"? I can't just launch at 6500 RPMs at ~16 psi and pray?

i offered a bonafide solution....then was flamed ...

Funny thing about going fast...SEVERAL ways to accomplish it...

As for this site...I am on many others and havent seen such vocal opinions...but hey its cool so long as we progress toward a goal.

Re: Slicks with stock axles! Am I crazy?

I launched at 4500 with stock rearend and a 100 shot of juice, with slicks at 15 PSI, mayb I would have broke eventually....but hey I ran over a year like that(but I did have aftermarket lowers)
and I agree with u Mark, chit gets old real quick..

Gotcha, I may just do a whole rearend/suspension overhaul this summer. I'm late on my offseason mods because I was out of work for 2 months. But now I have some cash to spend. I still need to get a set of wheels & tires for my car because all I have is stockers with bald Fusion tires.

Should have $1800 by summer time to build the rear end and do suspension work.

Here's another thing... I REALLY want more power (turbo or vortech) for street/highway fun. I don't want to drop $2k on rearend and suspension stuff since that would be a HUGE chunk of money towards boost.
