someone stole my ipod
my ipod was stolen from work yesterday, it was supposed to b e a Christmas gift from my parents, but i was playing with it at work, took my eyes off of it for about ten minutes max and it was gone. i reported it to the police since it cost was a touch version and worth about $300. does anyone know how i report this to apple so they can shut it down if the thieves try to use it?

Re: someone stole my ipod
That really sucks. I had one stolen out of my Mach while it was parked, unlocked, but IN my garage. The big garage door was open. I can't believe that someone walked into my garage while I was at home. I was ticked but at least they didn't harm my car.
I'm sorry about the loss. Go to the Apple site and read all about it. The last I checked they couldn't really do anything. Have you plugged it into ITunes yet? If so you may have the serial number available. That might help in filing a police report or maybe prevent a pawn shop from selling it??? I don't know if things have changed but Apple didn't really help to track them, maybe they figure they will sell more stuff. Here's a site with people asking the questions we all had. http://stolenipod.com/archives/4 I tried to 'stalk' my Ipod by watching Craigs List and Ebay in my area to see if I might find the thief, ha, I never got a lead.

Re: someone stole my ipod
Both my kids have these and until you enter the info (register the Ipod) on Itunes, it's just like whoever stole it bought it. Have you registered it yet? If so, I don't believe whoever took it can do anything with it, but I may be wrong.
I'd be more pissed about the fact that someone from where you work took it right in front of you? That's farked up!!

Re: someone stole my ipod
About the only satisfaction you might have is if you had set it to require an unlock code each time you wake it up. If the thieves don't have the code, they can't use it...and it won't allow them to restore it / refresh it in iTunes. It will basically be worthless to them.
It can be a bit of a pain to enter the code each time it wakes up...but to me it's worth it. |
