Friends, Romans, countrymen , it has come time to bid adieu
It is with somewhat a heavy heart that I post our Mach1 is no longer part of the family.
After 7 years and 11,000 miles of care and pampering it was time to move on. I cared and protected her since new and I truly hope it finds a happy home from the lot. If anyone is looking for an honest 11,000 mile Mach it will be at Hanover Dodge in Hanover PA until someone adopts it. Joan and I had to do some serious soul searching over this but, the hard reality is we needed a car that we could drive as a car for trips and when we are not using the Jeep. Having a 2 Door Jeep and 3 Mustangs just wasn't cutting it anymore. It came down between a Flex Limited and the Challenger. Dodge had a 2010 R/T with 6-speed, track pack and Moonroof. The Mach except for Carlisle just sat. The Challenger might give up some to the Mach is sheer performance but, in Ergonomics and outright comfort as a cruiser is just light years ahead of the SN-95 imo. I'll add the Mach to my minds list of all the great Mustangs, Shelby's and Bosses I have owned and sold over the years but, like I said it was time to move on. I have actually cried some today, almost feeling like I sent a child out for adoption but it was time. I wish you all the best and godspeed! Last edited by RnJstel; 10-20-2010 at 08:28 PM. |

Re: Friends, Romans, countrymen , it has come time to bid adieu
Challenger is nice but the Mach1 will live on forever. Mustangs will never die but i bet they stop making Challengers soon.
I would have kept the Mach. sorry

Sometimes you just need a change to make that drive a bit more exciting. Very nice looking Challenger.

Re: Friends, Romans, countrymen , it has come time to bid adieu
So, does this mean I'll see you two at Carlisle in July? I really like the Challengers and have thought hard about getting one. I just can't bring myself to pay the money they want for an SRT8. It's also the same reason I haven't traded the Mach for a new Mustang.

Re: Friends, Romans, countrymen , it has come time to bid adieu
The sobering reality of those new car prices can sure make the Mach 1 seem like a real bargain in comparison. Though there are some very tempting performance cars out there right now.

Re: Friends, Romans, countrymen , it has come time to bid adieu
I thought about trading my Mach in on a new GT-500. Then I thought about financing $25K. Hmmmm, no car payment vs. $500/month car payment. Mach seems like a real bargain. Keeping the Mach with no plans for another car any time soon. Best of luck with the Mopar and that car payment!

Re: Friends, Romans, countrymen , it has come time to bid adieu
Those are nice. First chance you get, park next to a 70-73 Challenger. Dodge really captured the "feel," and you would swear they got it the same ! But, side by side, you will see it is a very clever design illusion, and all the dimensions are different!
However, what they did is amazing ! |

Could have bought the twin turbo flex and it would be faster and more comfortable than the challenger!

Re: Friends, Romans, countrymen , it has come time to bid adieu
Thanks Carlisle Compatriots.
We'll still be coming up for all Ford but, might not have a car in the field. Still have two Mustangs left (84 GT-350 and 00 GT Vert-Mach Clone) but, also going to get rid of them in the next few months. Our Daughter has an S-197 vert and son an F-Series. She has the modding bug and wants to search for "GT" body parts now (it's a sixer). Otherwise, I also have been clearing the barn out of the tons and tons of Mustang/Capri parts aquired over the years. Really suprising how much some of the "crap" is really worth (or what people will pay for it). It's a double edged sword, it really is. I am surrounded by tons of Mach and Mustang acutrements to remind me of the Mach so I still get a little saddened. But here is the reality, we never drove it, it sat. I'm 6'5 and 290lbs, for me an SN-95 has ergonomics designed by the Marquis DeSade. Tried seat extenders and that was just bizzare, then it had the opposite and my 5'4 wife couldn't reach the pedals. Taking any trips with it was just painful so, it was relegated to hooligan runs and Carlisle only. I can't complain even though the Mach stickered for around 31K if I recall right, since I am A-Plan eligibile I ended up paying 21K for it in 04 as an 03 left over. 7 years later, trade in was 16K plus the 4K in Chrysler rebates for the Challenger made it a no-brainer. For multiple reasons and for us now in our 40's, we have come to realization to stop having stuff we never use and enjoy whatever time we have left with stuff we use. The Triumph Bonnevilles, the other Mustangs, The Boat and so on are going to go. Simplyfy, Jeep for Wheeling/camping, Challenger for Driving and maybe an old CJ or M-151 project and thats it! |

Re: Friends, Romans, countrymen , it has come time to bid adieu
At 6'5" and 290 no wonder you did not drive the car. Fox-based Chassis cars were for midgets like me 5'7" 200ishhh.
The challenger is a great looking car. Everyone I know who has one loves it. It is about then only other choice for me...

Re: Friends, Romans, countrymen , it has come time to bid adieu
I sure feel sorry for him. I think it was more of an impulse purchase. Hate to see that Mach1 go. The Dodge may be 7 years newer, but the Mach will always endure. Well, goodbye. Maybe you'll be back again someday-7s. That was one Pony for every year you had 'er.

Re: Friends, Romans, countrymen , it has come time to bid adieu
you know what??? YOU dont have to drive the Challenger, OK?????
In fact, you can keep your Mach 1 FOREVER and save the species!!! So, back off.. Yes, it was a tough decision,. but Mustangs have never been known for their comfort level....

Re: Friends, Romans, countrymen , it has come time to bid adieu
Here is the bottom line.
I posted to say goodbye to some other great owners and great people we have met and mostly spent a magical 3 days in June with over the past 7 years. No more no less, I don't give a flying rats *** if I could of bought a used Martian Turbo-Supercharged Anal Probe instead for less. I don't really care about Mustangs anymore, I have owned Shelby's, Bosses, CJ's, GT's, Mach's, Grande's, Sprints and more other stuff than I can remember of the past 30 years. My old man was the D/M for Hertz in the 60's and I used to tool around the back of my Mom's GT-350 (ex Hertz) as a small child. I had my fun, I wanted the Challenger and you know what I got it. Dave, you can lock the thread down if you want. I heard back from those important people who I only kept in contact with through the site by now anyways, I can see this is going to be a pointless thread and of no value. See you others next June (as a pedestrian). God bless, |

Re: Friends, Romans, countrymen , it has come time to bid adieu
Make up your mind. You like-don't like Mustangs? It was just an observation, not an attack. I've talked to a couple of Challenger owners at car shows who have owned them when they first came out. A couple already said..."If they had the chance to do it over"...I'm sorry you think my post was a jab at you.
