brake upgrades
now that my mach is stupid fast I was looking into brakes I know it came with brembos oem but i'm assuming local service stations do not replace the rotors with brembos so I prob have some chinese junk on there. Will I notice a difference with those unique looking DBA gold rotors from american muscle or powerslots with ebc or hawk pads? A $3,000 big brake kit isnt in my budget also does anybody have those mach1 caliper covers they look like a eally cool idea I was about to order red ones untill I saw they offer carbon fiber the only thing i'm worried about is the dark color will make the calipers barely noticeable anybody have them?

Re: brake upgrades
First of all, what are you doing with the car that you NEED a brake upgrade?

Re: brake upgrades
I have the Cobra R brake upgrade kit and my Mach stops like a big dog. I just replaced the rotors with ones off Ebay that are slotted and drilled yes there chink made but they were cheap and work well. I have new carbon metalic pads that are US made from Oreily's and they work really well. I think the Cobra R kit goes for 1,500. now so I would shop the price. I also have stainless brake lines front a rear.

Re: brake upgrades
R brake kits are $1200 or less brand new. However, if the OP even thinks he's going to do a track day, stay far, far away from cross drilled rotors as they crack under high heat. After they crack, they come apart.
Cross drilleds are nice for the street and for car shows. For any performance driving, use a slotted or a solid rotor. Just an FYI.

Re: brake upgrades
You might also want to look at baer they have a nice 6piston caliper that works with a 13" or 14" rotor.

Re: brake upgrades
i would prob just go with a slotted rotor and some hawks HPS brake pads if your not plannin on going to the track all the time
if i was getting into track driving i do the Cobra R set up, but mine is just a street car and i'm going to be going with Baer sloted rottors and i already have Hawks HPS brake pads, prob do new pads when the rotors go on so everything is new and that is what set up i'm doing for a street car for me, i just think the Cobra R set up is more for guys doing track or have the money to drop on that brake set up, just to much of a brake system for me, for what i'm wanting ASh

Re: brake upgrades
also i believe the carbon fiber aren't going to show up very good at all
i have 01 cobra caliber and painted em black and then sanded off so the cobra shines up, it brakes faster cuz it says cobra on it, lol j/k prob makes it slower, lol but i think you be better off doing black w/ white or the red ones if you want em to show up ASh

Re: brake upgrades
i ran hawk hps pads and i was cooking them on the street but i love the pfc z rated pads i have on the car now i cant get them hot enough on the street to fade i do have dba slotted rotors i don;t think the slots realy matter anymore with current pad design other than maybe for water. i would not use drilled rotors i had them on my porsche and they kept cracking. a good set of pads i would say is the best thing you can invest in i am going to a high speed auto cross this coming weekend so i will tell you how the z rated pads really will do
other than larger pads the only thing that will increase braking and heat dissapating is a larger rotor i would not bother with the 13" brembo kit but thats my opinion a while back 5.0 mustang mag did a review on the gt500 and they found that just removing the dust shields did more than the brake ducting did (the reason alot of race cars like nascar use brake ducts is because they actualy install blowers in the line which gives them extra cooling at slower speeds http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec...k_cooling.html just my .02 p.s. i used pfc carbon mettallic brake pads on my dodge neon dd and they lasted for 60,000 miles (i sold the car and they still had a ton of life left) and you could see the cross hatching on the rotors they are surprisingly easy on rotors so you wont be killing off expensive rotors |

Re: brake upgrades
I went with a similiar setup as the one ash reccomended I got hawk pads and powerslot slotted and drilled rotors. the car will be mostly high speed street use but since I more than doubled the power I figured upgrading brakes was in order. do I need to worry about the cross drills cracking under street use?
