iPod Interface for Mach 460
Guys,
I want to purchase and install in ipod interface to use in my 2003 Mach. I have searched through the posts on this subject and found a link to a SVT Performance thread that lead me to two options. One is a product by PIE and the other is a product by Blitzsafe. Both are shown below. http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piefrdnaux.html http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=797 I have seen where several of you have used the PIE product with good results, but I have not been able to find anything about the Blitzsafe product. The advantage of the Blitzsafe product is that the connection is through the ipod connector and not the RCA adapter. This means that it will charge the ipod and allow some control of the ipo through the factory head unit. Thanks, Stan

Of course, I still don't own an Ipod. Will it work with 8 tracks???
Looks like a cool idea, has anyone used one? |

Re: iPod Interface for Mach 460
I would go with the top one given those to choices as it allows for more options. The first one has RCA plugs, so get a cheap converter that converts RCA's into a headphone plug, then any audio device can be used(including your buddies mp3 player), not just an ipod. The quality of sound wont be as good as using the actual ipod plug, but it'll be so close you prob wont be able to tell the difference. The ipod specific one will have slightly better sound as stated, and it will charge your ipod, but how many road trips do you go on that would use up the entire battery of your ipod...? The first is cheaper, and is more versital, I would go with that one.

Re: iPod Interface for Mach 460
Also, almost forgot to mention, I don't think either one of those allow for control of the ipod from the stereo, even the second one. Call them up to make sure before you assume so, cause it states that you need EXTERIOR stereo controls to be able to control the ipod through the stereo. Our systems don't have any exterior stereo controls......

Re: iPod Interface for Mach 460
Am I missing something? The first one says it's not compatible with the Mach 460 system.

Re: iPod Interface for Mach 460
What about just using a wireless transmitter. I have this one--http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...F68Y46AHMM188D an I can use it in any car/truck.
It even works with having it on in the car and transmitting to/thru my shop system about 50 ft away. Later Ed

Re: iPod Interface for Mach 460
Guys,
Thanks for all of the replies and suggestions. I considered the FM Modulated ones, but from what I have read the sound quality is not that great. I think the best sound will come from something that plugs into the factory head unit. I do believe that the PIE unit will work with the 2003 Mach 460. According to what I have read, our radio has the 20 pin connector on the back for an external CD changer. It will not work with the CD6 unit that does not have the extra connector for the remote CD changer. I am still torn, so any further replies are welcome. Thanks, Stan

Re: iPod Interface for Mach 460
Will not work on an 03 since there is no auxiliary function. If you had an 04, you'd be fine because you'd have the auxiliary hookups.

Re: iPod Interface for Mach 460
If you get a good quality FM transmiter and just remove your antenna...you'll get really good sound. However, you'll have to stop and put the atenna back if you want to listen to the radio.

I used the USA SPEC DF-FORD10 adapter for the year I had my mach1, and have been using it on my cobra ever since... I love it. Here's the old thread I made awhile back... http://www.mach1registry.org/forums/...ad.php?t=42991 Here is an updated crutchfield link.. Generally, you *should* be able to find this at circuit city as well. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...581DFF10&tp=15

Re: iPod Interface for Mach 460
If you send an email to the folks at PIE http://www.pie.net/ or call them at 818-678-3697 they will tell you the exact adapter you need. You will need the radio serial number which you can get by pushing the right combo of buttons on the radio ... they will tell you how to do that also. I bought one of the adapters a couple of months back and intended to install but decided to get new radio instead when my croaked. I bought a new series Kenwood which is called a Media Player. It has a CD but also iPod interface, digital radio interface, Satellite, Bluetooth, but my favorite is the front panel USB interface. LOVE the radio first because it is a double DIN and looks GREAT in the car, but also because I've almost exclusively transferred my music to MP3 or WAV formats. I had all the options of the radio (above) installed and came out at about $800. Awesome radio.
If anybody is interested, I have a PIE FRD03-POD/S for sale. Is brand new ... box has been opened but never installed. Was just about to post it on 4sale page.

I bought and aftermarket head unit myself, and it lasted maybe a week before I pulled it. Just sounds alot better with the factory head unit and my sub. I never could get it adjusted right to sound good with my factory amps. Did you yank all of you factory amps and speakers? |

Re: iPod Interface for Mach 460
Here's a thread on this subject. Read the info from Mineralman. He went with the PIE unit first, then found something better. Much better..

Re: iPod Interface for Mach 460
When you say keeping the system stock does that include the main unit? I was looking to put in a dvd navigation system. I like one that panasonic has and its got everything in it. Bluetooth, ipod hookup, SD Card memory expansion and it will work with the mach 460 speakers and amps. Why not just get one of those?
