Re: Anyone else in a bad drought condition??

It hasnt rained here in a month or more.. What little rain came before that pretty much went right around us.. Today the "Jet cars" & other heavy hitters are invading the dragway next door for their big annual event & wouldnt ya know it, its starting to rain on them right now as it kicks off.. Just enough to screw up the track for racing but not enough to amount to anything significant

That little bit of rain created a three hour delay!! Once they got going, all but the jets were running the 1/8 mile because they couldnt get the back track dry enough! At least it didnt get rained out.

Re: Anyone else in a bad drought condition??

Had the first rain last night since the end of July.

So far lost a couple of trees, crazy though on the other side of town they were flooding last week.

The weather is crazy...

Re: Anyone else in a bad drought condition??

[QUOTE=03AV8R;855015]man i cant believe with all the flooding going on around the country im sitting in the worst drought condition since moving to Southern NH 10+ years ago..

All the grass is dead, leaves are falling off the tree's pre-maturely & people are having to drill new deeper well's.. Watching last nites local news All the local well drillers are booked solid right now..

Same conditions here in Southern Kentucky. Sunday's rain was the first significant rainfall since the end of June. We are 15 inches below normal. At yesterdays' football practice, our field was a mud pit because all of the grass died over a month ago. Our fall colors will probably be muted quite a bit.

At least you get to wash your car. Where I'm at you can only water 10pm-6am and NO car washing . However, you can take as many bathes as you like but no car washing ?

Yeah, it's pretty dry here.

We were suppose to get a good rain today and through the week but looks like that changed overnight.

Re: Anyone else in a bad drought condition??

Far from it this is a NWS statement for our area as of June.
We have had the rainiest Summer Ive seen around here and Ive lived here since 1976.

HYDROLOGIC OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX
355 PM CDT MON MAY 21 2007

...DROUGHT INFORMATION STATEMENT...

...DROUGHT CONDITIONS HAVE IMPROVED AND THIS WILL BE THE LAST
STATEMENT UNTIL DROUGHT CONDITIONS RETURN...

...SINCE THE MIDDLE OF MARCH HEAVY RAINFALL OCCURRED AND THIS
RESULTED IN RAINFALL TOTALS WELL ABOVE AVERAGE. THIS HAS NOT
ONLY JUST ABOUT ERASED THE SHORT TERM DROUGHT EFFECTS WE HAVE SEEN
IMPROVEMENTS IN THE LONG TERM DROUGHT IMPACTS...

SYNOPSIS...

SEVERAL RAINFALL EVENTS IN APRIL AND MAY HAVE RESULTED IN FAIRLY WET
CONDITIONS. THIS HAS IMPROVED CONDITIONS AND THE HYDROLOGIC AND AGRICULTURAL
IMPACTS HAVE DIMINISHED ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL DROUGHT MONITOR.

PRECIPITATION FOR 2007 AND DEPARTURE FROM NORMAL THROUGH APRIL 22ND:

2007 RAINFALL NORMAL DEPARTURE FROM NORMAL
AUSTIN MABRY 17.97" 11.69" +6.28"
AUSTIN BERGSTROM 21.19" 12.48" +8.71"
SAN ANTONIO 17.23" 10.80" +6.43"
DEL RIO 10.55" 5.63" +4.92"

HYDROLOGIC IMPACTS...
AREA LAKES...RIVERS AND RESERVOIRS HAVE SHOWN RISES DUE TO THE HEAVY
FREQUENT RAINFALL. BELOW IS A LIST OF RESERVOIRS WITH THE LATEST
ELEVATIONS AND NORMAL POOLS.

NORMAL POOL (FT) LATEST ELEVATIONS (FT)
MEDINA LAKE 1064.2 1040.52
CANYON LAKE 909 910.04
LAKE TRAVIS 681 672.99
LAKE BUCHANAN 1020 1009.55
LAKE GEORGETOWN 791 791.84
LAKE AMISTAD 1117 1106.94

MOST LAKES...RESERVOIRS...CREEKS AND RIVERS HAVE EXPERIENCED
SIGNIFICANT RISES DUE TO THE RECENT RAINFALL. AS EVAPORATION RATES
AND IRRIGATION USAGE STARTING TO INCREASE...WE WILL BEGIN TO NOTICE
LEVELS DECREASING IF WE DO NOT CONTINUE TO RECEIVE ADEQUATE
RAINFALL.

RESTRICTIONS...

ALL MANDATORY RESTRICTIONS HAVE NOW BEEN CANCELLED. ALL LOCATIONS
CONTINUE TO STRONGLY PROMOTE YEAR ROUND WATER CONSERVATION.

AGRICULTURAL IMPACTS...

THE RECENT RAINFALL HAS BEEN EXCELLENT FOR RANCHERS AND FARMERS AND
HAS ALLOWED FOR SPRING GRASSES...TO GREEN UP. SOIL MOISTURE ACROSS
THE REGION REMAINS NEAR TO ABOVE NORMAL. CROPS SHOULD CONTINUE TO
BENEFIT GREATLY FROM THE RAINFALL.

FIRE DANGER IMPACTS...

FIRE DANGER HAS BEEN REDUCED TO LOW BECAUSE OF RECENT SOAKING RAINS.
BECAUSE OF MARCH RAINFALL AND WET CONDITIONS IN APRIL AND MAY...MOST
LOCATIONS HAVE DROPPED BURN BANS. AS OF MAY 21ST A BURN BAN WAS
CURRENTLY IN EFFECT FOR DIMMIT COUNTY. RESIDENTS RESIDING IN
COUNTIES NOT LISTED SHOULD CONTACT THEIR LOCAL COUNTY JUDGE'S OFFICE
BEFORE DECIDING TO BURN...IN ORDER TO INSURE THAT THE COUNTY HAS NOT
ENACTED A BURN BAN.

OUTLOOK...

THE LATEST LONG RANGE OUTLOOKS FOR JUNE...JULY AND AUGUST ARE
CALLING FOR EQUAL CHANCES FOR BELOW NORMAL...NORMAL OR ABOVE NORMAL
PRECIPITATION AND A GREATER CHANCE FOR ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES.
ISOLATED TO SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE FORECAST FOR THE
NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. THIS SHOULD ONCE AGAIN PROVIDE MANY LOCATIONS
WITH A BENEFICIAL WETTING RAINFALL. WITH A LA NINA OR NEUTRAL
PATTERN DEVELOPING...WE WILL MOST LIKELY BEGIN TO EXPERIENCE DRIER
THAN NORMAL CONDITIONS OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. HOPEFULLY WE WILL
CONTINUE TO SEE AT LEAST NORMAL RAINFALL THAT WILL PROVIDE
IMPROVEMENTS IN SOIL MOISTURE AND WATER STORAGE IN AREA
LAKES...RESERVOIRS AND AQUIFERS.

Re: Anyone else in a bad drought condition??

Seems I can't avoid drought. I moved to Dallas in '05 which was an extremely dry summer. Watering restrictions in the city. I moved to NC this summer just before the serious rainfall in TX. Now here in NC it's the dryest I've ever seen it. Grass is crunchy and dead. Can't wait for the rain.

Re: Anyone else in a bad drought condition??

We took a trip to Texas in March. We spent a day in Dallas, a day in Austin, and two days in San Antonio and spent a day & night in Kerrville. The weather was great (it was 93 degrees when we were in Austin watching a UT-Miami of Ohio baseball game). The day we left to drive home it was raining. As we have watched the weather channel, I don't think it has stopped raining since. We seem to have that effect on places we visit. Two years ago we visited New Orleans and Biloxi Mississippi in early July. Five weeks later Katrina hit!

Re: Anyone else in a bad drought condition??

Relax, we don't plan on returning anytime in the near future.
While we were there in the Hill Country all the radio and tv stations were talking about conserving water because of a shortage. There were even Billboards along the roads talking about conserving water. Now it is Kentucky & Tennesse where washing the car and watering the lawn is prohibited and subject to fines if you are caught doing so. It seems as if we have switched climates for the past few months!

We have an unlimited supply of water . Were to cheap to do anything about it though . Sea level increases every year but we have droughts !

Its been dry here too . But business is booming because of it .
