Re: Honda CBR600RR

Thanks man...yeah I'm taking it slow to start out, not because I cant ride a motorcycle, but because I'm new to the sport. I got my license and took the MSF class September 10' and Ive just been waiting for a good deal. Ive got an armored-textile jacket, scorpion helmet and some alpinestar gloves. I didn't cheap out on gear because I know its the only thing between me and the asphalt.

boots and riding pants are a great idea. ikon makes some nice riding jeans.

look where you want to go and move your body that direction...let the bike move with you.

if its wet or cold out, rear brake only. dont brake in turns. slow before the turn, gas through the turn.

my wife saw one the other day and goes "great, the time of year when you beg me for another bike" lol

That's a bad a$$ bike. Love the color, a really nice, rich shade of red.

Re: Honda CBR600RR

Haha spring is coming early with all these 75 degree days NC is having. Im gonna have to look into riding jeans. Ive been resorting to my high top boots to ride in but are riding boots really that much better? Thanks for the tips too btw. Im trying to be a sponge and soak in all the info I can to help me stay safe.

No thanks. Only time you go rear only on a motorcycle when on the road is if you find yourself in very soft dirt, even then you still should use both brakes carefully and progressively. You just have to be more careful with the front than you'd normally be as you've got less available traction available for braking in the wet than you would on a dry surface. I will say that in the wet or on poor road conditions that I wouldn't recommend braking in the turn at all as there just isn't enough available traction for the forces of both braking and turning. But hey, I'm only saying this stuff because I've seen a lot of motorcycle accidents due to this stuff...I'm just saying...

*You can brake in turns if you know what you're doing, that being said, no need to do that on the street as you shouldn't be pushing a bike that hard on the street.

Be careful out there, while riding is great, it's also very dangerous with cagers on the road.

riding boots do 2 things

1) the bottom of them is smooth with no tread. anything with tread when you put your foot down while moving will try to grab. i made that mistake once and luckily I saved it lol.

2) they are reinforced down the side. this is important because if you go through a turn and you drag your shoe, again, it can grab and break or rip your ankle off. esp on the left side. I made this mistake once going through a hard left turn, had my foot under the shifter and on the peg. in the turn my foot became trapped and it tried to drag it backwards. coulda been bad. another mistake i made lol.

youre definitely right. I was just speaking more to a new rider. first time I went out, we were coming off an overpass, probably 25 mph and it was 25 degrees out....we went to turn left and I pressed both the brakes what I thought was soft and even. I ended up sideways skidding down the road. its just something I tell newer riders if they dont know their brakes very well yet. imo better to concentrate on one brake in slick conditions when youre new.

and true on the trail braking....Youd never catch me doing it on the street tho lol.

Re: Honda CBR600RR

Whenever you go out on the road, remember you are literally riding to protect your life.

No matter how well you think you think your concentrating on everyone around you and yourself, one slip in concentration is all it takes for disaster.

I always check my rear view mirror before braking or turning, just in case someone is coming too hot from behind. I had to run down the street one day, only a quarter mile, and decided not to wear my helmet cause it was just down the street. I also didn't check my rear view mirror when I made a left for the first time ever, and a guy in a car was speeding behind me, not paying attention, and nailed me. I turned into a tumbling version of Evil Kenevil and Superman. I was lucky I was able to avoid most of the contact, and lucky I wasn't severely injured or worse.

Be careful out there. You'll soon find that riding looses a lot of the fun when you almost get killed everyday. Makes you think about the risk vs the reward, and your family. Just something to think about.

RIDE SAFE!

Yeah Ill pass on a 1000cc bike haha...I mean I like speed and all but I couldnt see how it would even be useful on the street. The 600 is plenty powerful enough for me, but that may just be the newb comin out in me lol

Glad to hear of another MSF coarse graduate in my opinion
it should be manditory for every rider in every state.

Nice bike!
I lost my interest when I literally saw a dead person in the road with his brains out on the curb due to a motorcycle accident.

Re: Honda CBR600RR

Yeah I dont live in too big of a city and i take a lot of back roads wherever I go, Its just so much more fun cruising on back roads with no other cars than stop light to stop light on a bike.

I almost bought a ninja 250r but there was a guy with a black/red 03 cbr600rr with less than 4000 miles for a steal so I had to pull the trigger haha. Plus it was red/black just like my 03 mach 1
