Insane Gas Mileage

So I went to Kooks Headers today for a show, I filled up this morning at a Wilco Hess and reset the trip, Drove down obeyed the speed limit and was very easy on the car. Drove back and was the same 70-75mph, and only got on the car hard twice. So I pull into the same station, hit the trip and it says 100.9. Fill the car up, pump shuts off at 2.8xx gallons, so I hit it again and it shut off at 3.152 gal, so I figure its done. Well thats 32.01mpg

I have bigs and littles on the car and know the speedo is off, so I mapquest and google the route I took, both show it to be roughly 52 miles each way. So I'm not off by far if any really. I've heard of high 28.x and 29.x but never seen 30+. Anybody else ever get mileage this "4 cylinderish(LOL)"?

Re: Insane Gas Mileage

one time i made it from carlise pa to waterford ny on a tank of gas
I think i was getting like 28 mpg

My back was really messed up i made 90% of the trip with the cruise control on i kinda used it like a hand control for the gas since that leg was really in alot of pain.

Re: Insane Gas Mileage

I posted here recently the results of my trip to the Woodward Dream Cruise, 26.83 mpg on the highway @ 72-74 mph. This is from a car with 4.30s that'll crack easy 11's with a rear tire swap!

Re: Insane Gas Mileage

That is pretty darn good. That is the same MPG that my wife gets in her Accord during mixed driving.

I average 20-22 in mine with mixed driving and 24-25 pure highway/interstate. Which I have always been happy with considering it is an automatic transmission.

Re: Insane Gas Mileage

Typically get 27-29 mpg on most long trips, cruise, no A/C...even towing my little 4x6 trailer (yes, a trailer) on a couple trips, it got 24mpg.

You would probably get the same with the AC on. They say, the air drag with the windows down is worse than running the AC.

I usually see 25-29 as well.

Re: Insane Gas Mileage

This was windows down the whole time, NO A/C and no Cruise Control. The car has the factory plugs, 474xx miles and had a fuel filter about 9000 miles ago. The car has a JLT, 3/8 spacer, Catt'd X, Catback, and the Shaker Air Diverter. It was hot too yesterday, around 90 in statesville. I'm still in awe of this mileage. I drive a beater buick for a DD and have tried and tried to get 30.0 , but can never get better than 29.8x no matter how I drive it.

Re: Insane Gas Mileage

On a 600 mile trip I got 26 the first half going up and over a mountain range, and 28 the second half (flat Nevada desert, cruise set at 78mph). This was driving from Sacramento, CA to SLC, Utah.

Always get 24.5 when commuting.
Let my wife drive it around town for a week, got 18. lol

Re: Insane Gas Mileage

I'm getting around 23-24 mpg mixed driving. But I'm doing around 300 miles a week.

Anybody have any experience with how a tuner will help/hurt mileage? I'm running cai, catted x, and sss cat back, and I'm looking at a Bama tuned SCT x3 from americanmuscle.com.

Re: Insane Gas Mileage

Best I've got so far is around 15 with mostly city driving. Just changed the factory plugs (62K) to NGK iridiums and fuel filter as well as synthetic trans fluid and running bama 93 race tune.

FWIW I've tried the performance tune but did not see a difference in mileage, only throttle response..........so don't get your hopes up!

That's crazy - I don't think I've seen over 20 in several years in my Mach...granted, the KB doesn't help =)
